Condos in the news. Lovely photo of Mr. Stanton and stonebridge:::

Even so, most developers are steering clear of condos. Prices on existing units are still far below what it costs to build new, while banks remain hesitant about providing the construction financing. Other developers are being deterred by a Minnesota law that holds builders liable for major construction defects for 10 years
You don't have to fix the cheap siding peeling off those new apartments now do you?

I was going to come here to post the last sentence from that quoted paragraph. Gah, regulation, holding people back by making sure new buildings don't fall apart in their first decade.

I had to comment on the Strib about that one!

That storefront is a travesty.

I believe that is the old sales office from the Bridgewater that has been repurposed.

Yeah, this building really turned out well - better than I expected. I'd love to live in it, frankly. Maybe when the kid's through college...

Anyone know if they are actually planning on finishing the exterior of this building? It seems odd that people are living here but there is still quite a bit of exterior stone and metal work that need to be finished.

No one's living there. It's still under construction.

Love how it overlooks the park. I have to say - the ice-cream shop kinda sticks out like a sore thumb though.

My mistake, I was thinking some of the units were occupied, must have been thinking of another project or got ahead of myself knowing that the units are selling well.

I kind of think that was their intent. I doubt they really were aiming for the Ice Cream Factory to blend in... Still, some greenery and touches will make it look a bit less disjointed.

I think it physically sticks out because stonebridge * cough cough* didn't meet the street very well.

The tower looks great until you reach the base. The entrance is completely utilitarian and bland. Seems incongruent to the expensive prices they are charging above. Not sure Mr Stanton or the architects understand street level design in an urban context. Not evident in their latest proposal either ;)

I thought the units were fairly affordable (mostly in the 200K-300K range)? I don't know why I thought that though because I also remember this building being designed to cater to small families, and anything with 3 BRs is going to cost a bit downtown, let alone in the Mills District neighborhood.

Going by this the other day, I was shocked at how ugly the base seemed. From a distance this looks great, but the entrance is abysmal (but I've always been confused by the street level and the rather poor-looking one-story portion.

Agree about the base/entrance. Would have looked better closed in w/ glass.

This is a few months old already, but here is a shot from one of the upper floors with a view of the Guthrie and Stone Arch Bridge.
