Already starting breaking up the asphalt this morning. I imagine some ground is breaking with it.

From the Journal:

Groundbreaking tomorrow on new apartments near Target Field

Hines is breaking ground tomorrow on a new apartment development near the ballbark called Dock Street Apartments.
The six-story apartment complex will be built at 333 Washington Ave. N. It will have 185 apartments and 3,000 square feet of retail.

"Hines, one of the biggest property owners and managers in downtown Minneapolis, has since reshaped that plan into a large development of offices, housing and retail called North Loop Green, of which Dock Street would be a part."

I still am in the dark about the remainder of this redevelopment project, once called "North Loop Green".

If I understand correctly, which I may not. The Dock Street Apartments are phase one on the north side of 94, with a potential 16 story apartment building just south of them but north of 94. This is show in the latest site plan. Then S of 94 next to the stadium is the potential office building 350 N 5th. I don't know if those two have been drawn in a connected neighborhood form lately, but maybe Hines will tie them together with nice streetscapes and plazas under the over passes.

^This is my understanding as well, but I haven't heard a thing about the other phases of this project.

Preferably the overpasses would become streets instead of eyesores, opening up more of the land to development.

They have done this in other cities with great success.

Quick question. I assume whenever people say 94, they are referring to the trench that is the end of 394. So why is it called 94 when that is a completely different freeway? Or is my location way off on this and it is much further north.

There is a 94 overpass that follows 4th street North for 1/2 mile.

I think in this case, what they're really referring to is technically known as the Third Avenue Distributor Ramps.

These are the 94 on/off ramps from Downtown to 94. These are long raised on-off ramps that start at 2nd ave north and run to almost Broadway before entering the main part of 94.

yeah most people call those things freeway ramps.
i did not realize that was there - a 10-block long elevated on/off ramp. wow, how did the city let that happen?

Went to take a shortcut onto the trail after seeing Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, since I didn't feel like dealing with the drunks standing all over the bike lanes at the douchebag bars further south on 1st and it was a nice surprise: even nicer that I was still able to access the trail. The rate of development here compared to other Midwestern cities is just very refreshing.

I like how deep this is while taking up so little street frontage. Good use of land.

Upgraded then downgraded. Apple has a lot of work to do on Maps. Sidebar: There are apps that do moving panos :)

Anyway, I'll say it again as long as I'm posting, the pictures are awesome!

So just to confirm this looks like it will be reducing the expansion options for train platforms in the block-wide trench in that location? Bummer...

This is a big hole. They're starting to do some foundation work.
