I don't know what they did in the rendering to make this look so big, it's pretty average-sized now that it's up out of the ground.

It's not massive, but it's certainly a lot longer than all the other newer projects in the vicinity. The area is big enough to house the 720, 730 and the Herschel Lofts.

It looks like they're ready to start installing the facade:

The first siding has been installed in back - there's a section of red and a section of gray. It seems like they may be able to at least make it an interestingly garish ugly, but I'll hold off judgement till I see in sunlight.

Yep, I saw the panels today. Some of the grey and some of the red up, they both look great. The adjoining panels have slightly mixed tones. Should make an interesting addition and add some nice variation to the traditional north loop brick.

Personally I think the exterior looks too interesting right now. Can they make it a little more simple?

Hopefully, the variation in tile color will break up the massing a bit. I've biked by it several times and it feels a little creepy all covered up. I doubt the final result of this project is going to be remembered as a good addition to the North Loop.

I actually really like the way that this looks as I get onto 394 everyday from Uptown. From that angle North loop looks fairly dense (low rise), you can't see all the holes the surface lots create when you are on Washington. Being this is white right now I can see where it is, where it's filling a hole I hadn't been able to notice before. The massing is PERFECT with the other warehouse buildings. It ads a lot of depth to the urban fabric there. The windows are similar to what's in the neighborhood, and the sheathing will set it apart as a more modern building. The view that I have from the on ramp really shows how it fills a gap perfectly in scale with what's around it. I don't think it's a revolutionary building, but I think you all are maybe being a little harsh. I would love a few taller buildings in NL sure, but we have people like Min Chi Bus, who like to support urbanism and taller buildings but aren't willing to fill them either... I only call you out in the most respectable way, because you've said before with your family you'd prefer more space/rooms/cost effectiveness... So what would we do with a bunch of pretty, tall, and empty apartment buildings anyways?

I was totally being cheeky with the "Turd North" thing, because the opportunity was there for a KILLER joke! Besides, I put up a disclaimer saying that we could call it this name if it turned out to be a crappy project......IF.

I actually prefer infill more than most mammoth projects like these, to the effect that the smaller the better is pretty much my motto.

Thanks for sharing all your pics. As min-chi-cbus said, those of us away from Minneapolis always appreciate the visual updates!
