Biked by this project a couple days ago and saw the colored panels in the back. You can't see it in the picture, but the panels make a a striking pattern of varying shades of gray and red. Helps redeem the building 's not so nice boxy massing, and gives it a playful exterior.

I was kind of bummed at this not having any retail, but looking at the floor plans, every first floor unit has street entry, so that's pretty good for the frontage, and keeps the NK feel at bay ;)

Also love the red tile. Doesn't look Communist at all! :)

The rendering made this look like it was going to be purple and red, but it's clearly grey and red. I guess they were trying to go for a blue hour look on their renders.

This looks like such a fortress block. Could definitely use some balconies to break up the facades.

This is too boxy, but the colored panels are great. I'm thinking the orangish/red panels will look similar on the "Lime " in Lyn-Lake, however, Lime's massing and details are much better.

I like the severity of this one - it fits the neighborhood in my eyes. And I'm also really enjoying the panels. They turned out better than the rendering in my eyes. I realize I'm one of the few who like this, but I have all along. And it's a beast.

In person it really matches the shapes of the old warehouse buildings, so it doesn't seem so bulky like it does in the pictures.

My favorite part of the paneling is that in the indents, the colors alternate and make a cool effect as you travel by.

When I saw this on Sunday I was blown away. I was expecting a monolith box, but was treated to a building with texture, as in color shades. I like the variation of the grey and red panels. This definitely helped to make the building less of a fortress. Went from, I hate the concept to I'm looking forward to the finished product.

Oh I'm with you.....I LOVE this thing (color/look anyways)!! I also wish it weren't as boxy and rather it be 3 or 4 separated buildings lined next to one-another, all with a different color theme (i.e. red, orange, gray, yellow). But it's hard to be too disappointed with this project. I'd like to see more of this kind of thing, personally -- certainly not less!

BTW, it will officially never be dubbed "Turd North" (I'm sure that was the developer's ultimate goal)!

Not a fan of how many of these buildings are so flat. I'd prefer more cut in balconies/window bays, etc.

The difference is buildings that play up their flatness and buildings that try to poorly hide it. The ones that play it off look a little more modern (which may or may not be everyone's taste), and the ones that try to hide it (like pictured) tend to be no-body's taste... ;)

There is so much construction activity throughout the North Loop - the streets are chaos in a few places and it's great.

I took some pictures of this earlier today, as well as a few other spots throughout town that I"ll post later.
