Looks like we might still get the Farmer's Market Soccer Stadium.

KSTP's desperate attempt to try and get a few viewers. Not going to happen with the money that they have already sunk into the designs for the St. Paul site and all. Don't think the east side legislators will give them a dime if they turn tailcoat and go to MPLS. Shows bad faith and the legistature will not be looking kindly on a trust level from there out. Just Opat blowing his wisdom out his A$$!Looks like we might still get the Farmer's Market Soccer Stadium.

The Vikings and Twins stadiums had their fair share of back and forth and alternative sites suggested before they ended up downtown. Minneapolis is a much better site for this than Midway. I'm not saying it's a sure thing or even probable, but I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up in Minneapolis. Nobody lives in or goes to Saint Paul anyway. I also think the Saint Paul City Hall will get a fair amount of push back from their constituents when they figure out how much it will cost them. There is a pretty vocal group over there that don't ever want anything to happen. Look at how hard they fought the light rail and even bike lanes.

Re: West Loop / Farmers Market / Royalston Station
Another gem from ace reporter Jay Kolls of pointer gate fame.
I'm very glad Minneapolis is holding out for inevitable housing and office growth adjacent to Royalston station. Perhaps Hennepin county commissioners are feigning disappointment they won't be burdened by a stadium for a stupid gimmick sports league.

Re: West Loop / Farmers Market / Royalston Station
Jay Kolls is such a douche... He is totally a "Hubbard" tool... he is against any and all urban transit and development. KSTP has done some of the most egregious reporting on LRT and other urban issues.
Re: West Loop / Farmers Market / Royalston Station
Lol nice salt. The Midway site is still a better site to put this, given its central transit-accesible location.Minneapolis is a much better site for this than Midway. I don't think this has been discussed yet here, but I saw some work going on at 620 Olson Memorial Highway today. New windows going in, etc. Looks like it's going to be a couple of charter schools. Remember when an "entertainment complex" was proposed there back in 2011?

Re: West Loop / Farmers Market / Royalston Station
Some new info on this area. The group of north loop business interests formerly known as "2020 Partners" has recently rebranded as "NuLoop Partners": https://www.nulooppartners.org/
And one of first initiatives is rebranding the "West Loop / Farmers Market / Royalston Station" area as the Root District. Here's a presentation summarizing how they arrived at this name, etc: https://www.nulooppartners.org/wp-conte ... r-2019.pdf
There's an event scheduled for March 4 to introduce this work to the public: https://mailchi.mp/445d8e6ed503/present ... ViuLu6ZsVw

I like it! I think branding can go a long way. I appreciate the movement towards creating unique brands for the neighborhoods.

Wouldn't want to cause confusion with WeDo."West Town" was already taken?

Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
In the material on the panel that studied the A,B,C ramps, I see that there is a suggestion that workforce housing could top the B ramp and that the structural framing of the three ramps makes this kind of modification possible. They envision some urban farm space and solar arrays as possibilities alongside the housing. The recommendations also point the way forward for gradually transforming the ramps into other uses - but initially as integrated parts of a transit hub. Would that MN Dot and the city could actually pull something like this off. The overall NuLoop project could become an interesting stimulus for some wonderful development around the farmer’s market and the Royalston station. It probably won’t all happen in this current boom cycle, but it perhaps the base of a future boom could be developing in this area.
Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
Curious if anyone can tell me a little bit more about the area I highlighted in the picture. It’s the area just to the west of the future Roslyn Avenue station. What exactly are these buildings, and what will it take to get them re-developed? Anyone think we could start to see these buildings re-developed before the completion of Southwest?

Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
Target has their photo studio there according to Google. There is also what appears to be maybe a financial services business. I'm not sure Target is going to want to really give this up. Then there are some misc small businesses and the city's traffic control division. I noticed this week that the outlet on Glenwood and E Lyndale N is moving due to the construction
Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
This is also the site they were trying to get for an MLS stadium. https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/ ... arket.html
Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
If it’s a photo studio, I don’t see why that couldn’t be incorporated into a new development. I would imagine that the price of the land has skyrocketed since Southwest light rail is going through.
It seems like such an awful use of land that is extremely close to the light rail station.

Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
I presume they want something near their Downtown HQ, not a lot of space like that around. But they should be able to find something, perhaps across 94 in the Southern part of North. I wonder if there is any chance Target would have a hand in the development? Maybe put one of their small stores? However, this isn't North Loop so I doubt that.If it’s a photo studio, I don’t see why that couldn’t be incorporated into a new development.
