I'm warming up to these buildings... at first I thought that height would be better but I think that this might look better visually as you cross the bridge... not as much of a wall. Still very curious what will actually happen on the Nicollet Hotel site and whether the block across Hennepin will end up with those 20 story black towers...
I really like this project and think it will be pretty transformative for the area. Nicollet Hotel block sure sounds like it's back in motion with Greystar on board. I don't think the "Eclipse" site will be developed by Shamrock (Stanton), and will languish a bit longer. That's my prediction based off a recent interview with the guy. He'll do another condo building or two near Gold Medal Park and that'll be it. He's 80 and ready to call it a career.

EDIT: MinnPost article https://www.minnpost.com/politics-polic ... ate-condos

He will finish the Portland and then maybe get that other tower near the Gold Medal Park built and by that time he will be going on 85 I'd say.

Talk about a development that is low drama, low profile - seems like this just sailed thru any and all processes.... Glad to see something on that block.

As a native Minnesotan currently living in San Diego, a heading in that Minnpost article drove me crazy: "San Diego: a warm Minneapolis?"

San Diego has god-awful urban design, truly terrible. Really makes you appreciate Minneapolis. Checkout these massive curb cuts for apartment parking in one of San Diego's "hip" and "dense" neigborhoods:

Uh, what? Curb cut? More like just let the street spill up to the building.

Anyone ever been to delaware st in stadium village? There's an entire block that's a curb cut. But I do agree about Minneapolis generally having better urban design

They're already leveling the ground and putting up those safety things over the sidewalks (I'm not sure of the name). It's exciting to see that this is already under way.

wow, looking at North ave. such a very wide road and still such a small tight sidewalk? Then the parking on where the lawn should be. Is that because of the water shortages they want to do everything they can to get rid of grass spaces? Even if that means wasted "parking" space on the road.

I see that precast walls are going up near the parking ramp. This thing is moving fast!

Walked by today and say the precast walls and structure of the few parking spots that this building will have. I thought there was to be a few levels of underground, but I guess the ramp next door will be the closest thing to car shelter that they will have.

Once this is up it will give the intersection of !st street and Hennepin a new look, especially when you are heading west on 1st.

Construction is moving along! Here's a shot from a few days ago. I'll add pictures of construction progress occasionally.

Some shots from April 7th. Capella Tower is also lit up blue, for autism awareness month.

These are technically fantastic shots. Great job with the exposure length. Are you using a tripod or are you resting the camera on the parking ramp itself?
