Do you think this project will move forward in August this year or are we looking at another extension or something?

I believe uptherd it was indicated that demolition has started on the site. I’m guessing that means project construction has begun Or will begin shortly

It’s been two-and-a-half years since developers received approvals to build a 240-unit market rate apartment building on a mostly vacant half-block of the Elliot Park neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown Minneapolis.

Excavation work has begun and the city on Feb. 8 issued a demolition permit for the former Minnesota AIDS Project office building at 1400 Park Avenue.
MOD EDIT: full article text was removed. It's bad form to post full text of articles behind a paywall. Nobody wants to see streets.mn get sued. And paywalls exist for a reason...I don't think any of us here are against journalists getting paid for their work

Unspoken (now spoken) forum rule is that we don't copy and paste stories that are behind paywalls.

The funny thing on this one is that the article literally did not contain any new information, other than to state that the project has started. It did not include comments from the developer or anyone.

Anyone want to do some sleuthing to find out if this project has a name? Check demo/building permits, etc...

I'll go for a walk today or tomorrow.

The site has been cleared, including most of the snow. Interesting note: the MN AIDS Project building didn't have a basement.

Has anything happened with the old church adjacent to this project (discussed upthread)?
Does anybody know where this stands?

It still stands, and lies outside the construction fences. As to its future I don't have a clue.

Thanks for the update. Hennepin County Property shows that it is still owned by the 1400 PARK AVENUE APTS LLC.

Pile driving has been stopped for almost a week at less than a third of the way done. Today there were bucket trucks on site. I wonder if they found underground utilities where they didn't expect.

There are still no project banners on the barrier fences other than the ones for Big-D construction.

They appeared to be putting up additional banners this morning, and Xcel was on site. They were working on one pole and there was a pile of additional poles on the ground, so I'm assuming they were moving the existing utility poles.

The additional banners apparently were all Big D too.

No pile driving since they stopped in the middle of the morning over a month ago. For awhile Xcel was on site, but now nothing.

Looks like they're gonna start up again. There have been a parade of utilities on site (although not clear what they've been doing, there are still overhead powerlines criss-crossing the development), and they spent a day welding the pile driver. Today it looks like they're testing it out.

Excavation has been progressing SLOWLY for about a month, even though pile driving around the perimeter of the hole hasn't been completed. They've dug down to a consistent depth, but it doesn't seem to be deep enough for the two levels of underground parking shown in the 2016 plans submitted to the city.

Xcel has been on site frequently and there is still one set of power lines crossing right across the middle of the project.

Strange how slow this is going.

Excavation almost done. Foundation work has started. Excited to see this one start in earnest.
