Oh hey, let's make this Dayton's Food Market thread about Skyways and those who Love them vs those who Loath them!

Getting those 51k trips/people down two floors to the lower level for a food court will be one of the biggest challenges for this project, I think. People don't even leave the skyway for ground floor retail... The two level atrium will have to be pretty enticing.

The skyroom and lower-level food court in Macy's were always pretty busy. If it's good enough food, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

That is good to know. I didn't have much experience in the food court or skyway level retail before Macy's closed. The new atrium will only help that cross flow.

Office tenants will be on the upper floors. This won't be like a Mayo Clinic Square where there's already limited space for offices. I wouldn't be shocked if one of those larger spaces on the Skyway level was snagged by a smaller office though.

Wasn't there speculation based on the early leaked plans that the Pinstripes that had been proposed for the Guthrie ramp liner parcel might end up here?

Yeah, those first leaked plans had a bowling alley in that big space in the back of the basement.

51k daily skyway trips vs 20k pedestrians on Nicollet mall ...sigh...
The math on this seems a little sketchy. Based on the slide, it really seems like the comparable figure should be the 15,100 people noted in the City Center skyway (or maybe a slightly busier USBancorp skyway). The 51k figure must be double counting a lot of people, and also includes the traffic crossing Nicollet Mall from the IDS, which would probably be attributed to 7th and 8th Street in the street-level pedestrian comp.

Yeah, looks like they just summed up all the skyway traffic counts. Which means, since there's no destinations or even a street connection in Dayton's any more, they're not just double counting a lot of people, they're double counting everyone.

The downtown council was having a PACKED standing room only meeting in the room on the skyway level of Daytons by IDS. Looked like there was a presentation happening on screen. Anyone know about this?

Well that's why it was taking so long. I did not know that there was interior designation for the tax credits.
The $214 million redevelopment of the historic Dayton’s store in downtown Minneapolis is ramping up now that the project team and National Park Service are in agreement on a major design sticking point.

The two sides had been at odds over a planned three-level atrium that will allow visitors to look from the skyway all the way to a below-grade level, where a food hall is planned.

The development team... wanted a roughly 2,500-square-foot atrium on the skyway level. But the National Park Service, which has authority over approving historic tax credits, argued that Dayton’s didn’t have an atrium — those are a feature of indoor mall...
Settled on a smaller atrium near the IDS skyway.

So making it what...5-10 feet narrower all the way around at most? Not much difference.
