Imagine if this food hall is so successful that it became a chain name for other food hall locations! I think it be the first time a “failed” brand is brought back in a new capacity or at least in the retail market.

Agreed. I hope this is just the jolt that Nicollet needs.
Dayton's was not a "failed" brand. As someone who has lived here my whole life and experienced Dayton's before it became Macy's, the only failures I can see are, Macy's customer service was not as good, if you could find somebody, and the stores were allowed to look tired. Maybe Dayton's would have suffered the same fate as other big department stores, but during it's time as a store, "failure" it was not. That happened during it's time as Macy's. My father worked for Dayton's, at the warehouse, for over 30 years and retired while it was still Marshall Fields. He was very proud of being a part of Dayton's.

Caught a few glimpses of the inside this week. Walking along 8th they had a door open and the first floor area within still looked pretty barren. Then on the second floor back by where the mens's suits used to be they are building some new walls around the skyway change from Daytons to the Radisson Blue and they had some double doors open. Looked mostly wide open and empty there too.

Very curious what the first and second floors look like closer to Nic and 7th

I don't think the food hall itself is named Dayton's. Dayton's is the full building. If this project is successful I do not expect there to be a Dayton's opened in St Paul, MOA, Edina, etc. This is a one project name.

Sounds like the skyway level will be getting some work between now and Nov 30.

I received the below from my LaSalle Plaza building management:
Beginning today (Tuesday, September 3) through Tuesday, October 15, the skyway from 811 LaSalle to Dayton’s will be closed. Access to the skyway system will be maintained by the stairwell in 811 LaSalle that leads to US Bancorp Center where the skyway is accessible from there.

The final section of skyway closures will take place October 15 – November 30. The skyways linking IDS and US Bancorp to Daytons will be closed during that time.
I take this to mean on or around Dec 1 we should have a good look at the new layout of the Dayton's skyway level.

Per Esme Murphy on Twitter(do not have actual link at the moment), the opening has been delayed to Spring of 2020.

Maybe they should have leased space to MoviePass too while they were at it.

It's not like they couldn't bring in local player Lifetime Work. Or even just run a subscription office leasing system themselves. The business model isn't that special (though I imagine it's a lot more profitable to lease to someone taking on the subscription model risk vs trying to do so yourself).

Orvis seems to be doing alright, and FAO Schwarz did open a new store in NYC last year, so who knows. Plus C&E is expanding in Asia and Australia, so I wouldn't be surprised to see new stores here eventually.

But no, I don't expect to see a relaunch of County Seat any time soon.
