It was informative, I agree. But it stepped over the sensationalist/trolly line when it not-so-subtly insinuated that snow/hail could cause another collapse like the Dome's. The MSFC chair pointed out the fact that the roof has a steel superstructure supporting the ETFE, but KSTP was more than happy to ignore that point altogether and imply that the inflation of these cushions was somehow analogous to the Dome's inflation.
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

I happened to catch Chris Egert introduce his "investigation" during the 11am news today. It was a decent clip but it for sure had some sensationalist elements to it. Especially when they cut away from the guy at Vector Foiltec after he said "we don't know" for how long it lasts. It almost seemed to imply they aren't sure if it'll hold up when really they don't know how long it'll last because it lasts so long. The comparisons to the Metrodome roof was a stretch too. In my opinion, KSTP probably spent $5k+ on sending a crew to Germany and wanted a story to come back with. When Chris Egert ripped a small hole in the first layer after jumping on it 92 times, I'm sure they thought they had a story.

They did say on the 11am news that one of the time's ETFE was severely damaged was when it encountered baseball-size hail. That is possible although rare up here. Based on the story and web extras, it sounds like hail damage is possible but it wouldn't cause a complete failure of the roof panel. Vector Foiltec said they have a 15 year, unconditional warranty but it sounds like it's unclear if they would cover hail damage or insurance.

Minnesota is in the running to host the NCAA Finals Four from 2017-2020, and we've made it to the elite 8 ;)

A couple things of note in this updated final 4 render:

-This is the first rendering I've seen with the new scoreboard dimensions (120x68 I believe). Thing looks massive
-There also appears to be blackout curtains over the glass front of the stadium, I wonder if the roof will also get this treatment?

Don't want that pesky skyline stealing the shot.

Believe it or not there is actually some truth to this in a basketball sense. Basketball players are use to having a relatively consistent shooting background behind the glass backboards. While there are variations in the different arena's it the Big Ten they are more or less the same. Now when you play in a gigantic football stadium that backdrop is much further away affecting the depth perception of the shooters. It's one of the reason's why you see bad shooting nights, and especially air balled free throws, at the Final Four's and regional's in football stadiums.

I realize the windows are above the level where the players would normally look but it could still be an issue. I would guess the bigger issue would be glare and lighting problems for TV. I know at Banker's Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis (the NBA equivalent to the X) they have black out curtains on the windows that shine directly into the seating bowl.

That drop down scoreboard seems to almost be as long and wide as the entire basketball ball court! :o

Not that uncommon anymore - Target Field's scoreboard is notably larger than a basketball court. And it's not even in the top 3 in the league.

I was told the East truss is supposed to go up this week, it looks like they're moving it around on the Aerial cam.

They also placed the first of the side trusses that branch out from the main span today, near the rear of the stadium:

I noticed that today on my way back from the University. It is going up slow but sure. I'm sure this cold weather is slowing their concrete pours .
