I just heard that the stadium proposal has been downsized thanks to neighborhood opposition. They're only building two space-age looking walls now; the rest will be cardboard. On the bright side, the stadium now costs half as much, though the public subsidy hasn't changed.

Oh and they're tearing up the light rail tracks in downtown Minneapolis to build a linear stadium parking ramp in their place.

What are you talking about? The stadium is basically completed. I haven't heard anything about the light rail tracks being torn up.

Once upon a time this was a great thread. Now it's about as fun as the old metrodome trough urinals. And just as pissy.

Goota love that remark!! But it is so true even if I'm one of the biggest pissers!

What made it fun in your mind? What is making it bad (other than the pissiness or is that it)?

Probably because this is a thread for the construction of the stadium and there are entirely different threads for the stadium financing and other sports conversation.

Yeah but I thought that this thread was ALWAYS polluted with financing/sportsball.

So generous of them to pay a full half of the cost of a bridge that's only needed for their own events.

Have the Vikings ever expressed any desire for that bridge? I thought it was all the Met Council’s idea.

“The Vikings are in control and we take all the risk,” Dorfman said.

When talks began in 2014, the Vikings were not expected to contribute any cash toward the bridge. After pushback from the Met Council, an agreement was reached along with the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority that called for the team to contribute up to $3.5 million in exchange for half of the LRT station advertising revenue. But when bids were let over the fall, they came in higher than expected, so more negotiations were necessary.

I think we know that the Vikings didn’t want to pay for it. But is there any evidence that the Vikings ever thought the bridge was necessary? Does anyone remember seeing a bridge in any of the Vikings concepts, renderings, videos and models of the stadium and it’s surroundings?

It seems like their actions indicate that the Vikings didn’t want a bridge, but the Met Council insisted on it. And that would explain why the Vikings were reluctant to finance it.

The bridge is a waste of money. It was never needed when the metrodome was standing so I don't see why it's needed now. I'm not buying everyone entering the east side either, there will be gates all around the building just like at the dome.

Move it here. Please.

Is it too much to ask for some people to have a neutral view on the Vikings? Like, they've made some mistakes, recognize that. I'm a Vikings fan, always have been. But holy sh*t they've screwed some things up in this area.

They've really screwed it up haven't they... It's the most iconic building this town will ever see. Enjoy Nic on 5th and 4marq... The gateway, etc... Lol

And what exactly are you trying to accomplish here? It seems like you want to be straw man and get everyone upset about something.

No, it's not that. I just wish the folks on this board would get over the financing and enjoy the architecture. I absolutely love it. Mpls will be known as the city with the awesome stadium." The metrodome was an embarrassment and I loathed that eyesore since day one. Give this behemoth some love. It's great for the city's image to outsiders and is an impressive statement. My opinion of course. What a sight heading towards downtown on Hiawatha! Love it.
