Unless I'm going insane, the podium is seven stories tall. The next mass is another seven stories tall. The top of the podium is the start of floor eight. The tower narrows again at the start of floor fifteen. See how "Level 1" is marked at 0' on the elevation.

The top of the podium has the swimming pool and other amenities so it is a usable roof. On that same floor, you have the enclosed tower portion. So half of floor 8 has a roof. A "usable roof" can be considered a story.
The building has 2 lower floors so it makes sense that they would specify level 1 at 0' elevation.

If you are close to the building in person, you will see that the setbacks happen exactly where it was indicated on the packet.

The building is 15 stories of structural concrete with rebar being laid for what will be the 16th floor:

The glass that has been installed so far does help diminish the sense that the precast panels of the facade are -- precast panels with punched windows. Somehow, the glass helps the fairly ornate detailing of the panels take on more of a stone-like look and feel. The light color of the panels - which looks quite different from so many of the dreary, gray renders - is a big improvement on the advance publicity. I still fan't figure out what contextual references the design carries - certainly nothing in it's neighborhood. It's not bad to ignore some of what is around it, but this looks a bit like something plucked out of an old, East coast or Rust Belt city, washed up and planted randomly in a pretty setting. I suppose it's a good foil for the "towers of doom" right behind it.

They are up to floor 17 on this. Here is a photo looking down 12th Ave S and from a balcony on The Legacy.

Those three part windows on the corner really ruin the 'pre-war aesthetic.'

Thanks for the photos!

I remain suspicious that they'll eventually build out the rest of the site over to 11th, matching the massing of the plinth.

There is chatter on the Skyscraper City thread about this actually being 580'.
https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/ ... 05/page-39

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought a change like this would go through the CPC like with RBC. I searched the CPC website but could not find any packet regarding a height amendment. Any ideas?

Minor changes can be approved administratively, but if RBC Gateway had to go back to the CPC, I don't know why this wouldn't have to. Maybe 580' is the final crane height?

I deliver rebar and steel to the site regularly so I will ask about the height Since I will be there today

According to Ryan this is expected to be topped out late February at a height of 580’
The crane that unloaded me is at 588’

I wonder why they needed to add 30'? I didn't think that with all the design plans and approvals that were required that a building could just end up being substantially taller than plans... But this did happen with the US Bank tower when it was built. That crown is much higher than original plans because the HVAC system ended up needing for space and they built the crown above it. I think that added between 10 and 20 feet that the tower.

Wow... so that makes it the 5th or at least tied for 5th tallest building in Minneapolis? I would never have guessed a top 5 tower would get built so far outside of the core. With the quality and design though, I'm not mad about it. (I also secretly hope someday it has a companion on each side... what a cool trio that could be with the right designs)

Hopefully this drags heights and densities up through DTE and the skyline spreads! (Weak moment of height fetishism)

I was on northeast 35W for the first time in a while yesterday after sunset, and I was totally blown away by how big and prominent this thing is in the skyline. Truly wild.

Assuming this is correct that would mean both eleven and the gateway got taller while under construction which even if its only 15 feet and 30 feet I still find very encouraging.
Either way im stating to see this building in the horizon all over the city!

I was also told 46 stories too. And one guy I spoke with today said 45 floors and 582’. There is indication on material bundled here that indicates there will be more than 41 floors, as the floor # is highlighted on the material. So no real solid consistent evidence of what the height is actually going to be or floor count. Other than talking to the Job Superintendent and seeing the official blueprints on site, my conclusions For the size of this building is uncertain after today’s visit. However I’d roll the dice and say more than 41 stories and taller than 550 feet.

If you’re on the south side, this lines up with 17th Avenue. A new terminating vista!

Thanks for the intel, Sam.

From Dinkytown, it dominates the skyline and lines up perfectly with the Dinkytown Greenway when looking downtown from the Dinkytown McDonald's intersection (4th St & 15th Ave). From this vantage point, it blocks out a lot of the rest of the skyline.
