Mid century is so cool right now. Love it. If it wasn't so convoluted to get them out to this site I'd say go for it

Skyways.

So very last century?
Not from MN originally but I tend to like the skyways and use them more than not.
A native bachelor farmer wouldn’t use them. Image
But pulling on your parka and mittens to walk four frozen blocks is definitely from the century before that.
As are wider sidewalks, bicycles, and streetcars. Image
Why in the heck would a "bachelor farmer" be downtown to use them anyways, there isn't any stock yards.

And a confirmed-bachelor farmer wouldn't be found in them, either -- they don't go all the way to the Eagle.

A confirmed bachelor farmer would put on his chaps and ride his steed (bicycle) to the Eagle on the Washington Ave bikeway.

Is it my imagination, or does the plan call for a drive thru curb cut in the middle of the aBRT station platform?

I believe the BRT Platform would be closer to Park, after that curb cut, which is why I think it's where it is.

That is certainly possible, but not what is shown in the plans. Perhaps it was shifted? The site plan just shows trees along the sidewalk next to what is labeled as the “BRT Lane”, with a yellow box roughly corresponding to where the platform is shown in the 8th St. BRT layout.

Hmm... they easily could have designed this without that curb cut. But then the entrance would be much less obvious, of course.
Also, hate the first level material choice. Almost makes the whole thing look like a parking garage at street level.
Besides that, this is pretty good for this spot.

This looks okay from the west. From the east, it's boring. I'm guessing the developers thought it was too expensive to repeat the fancy window treatment on the other side.

Their plan seems to be a bit misleading. The ground floor starts at 100 ft, so I am thinking this will actually be just 179 feet tall.

Not sure why it is labeled like that.

Better. They basically fixed what I was bitching about a couple posts up.

That's correct - they apparently do that so they don't have to use negative numbers for below-grade levels. You'd think after watching this stuff for five years, I'd remember that, but apparently not. Fixing it now.

Just an update, the work going on here appears to be utility work in the street, there is nothing going on within the Wells Fargo site.

Kraus Anderson presented an update to the Elliot Park neighborhood last night.

Nine residential units formerly at ground level on the 8th and Park side have been replaced with about 5,800 sf of retail space, bringing the total unit count down to 341. The retail space is designed so that it can be broken up into smaller bays. Along with the new Wells Fargo branch and a small ~1,900 sf space next to it on Portland, there will be about 11,000 sf of retail total in the project.

The deal with Wells Fargo requires that the bank branch have no down time, so construction will be phased with the bank on the west side opening before the tower even gets started. They're aiming for a July 1 start on the two story Portland Ave portion. Tower construction should start March 2020 and be completed in early 2022.

It's great to see development spilling over east into Elliot Park, and especially with this much retail. I wish they would have gone higher on the Portland Ave frontage -- why two stories when all of its neighbors are 5+? We need height directly on the street. I suspect Wells wanted just one but the city does not allow single story new construction, so they stuck a floor on.

I think that's correct - the original plans presented to the CoW linked upthread show the WF wing on Portland and a mirror wing of apartments (now retail) on Park being just a single story tall. Did the Park side also gain a second story?

If I remember the renderings correctly you're right, there is a small portion next to the alley that is a single story. But all of the new retail square footage is along 8th under the tower. 3-4 walkup units on Park as shown in the plans must be staying.
