Please, please, please come to fruition! They've had this plot for a long time, I'm glad they're finally pulling the trigger! My guess is they're looking to land Fredrikson and Byron for the office portion.

Opportunity to force the issue of getting rid of the viaduct? I want to see Google Earth with this and the Gateway project.

This would be incredibly visible from Target Field. I bet you could tune into the radio broadcast from a balcony 20+ stories up and watch the game. Of course filling that gaping hole in the urban fabric is far more important...

ICONIC! and the filling in the gap in pedestrian amenities will be revolutionary!

To say this is exciting would be an understatement. Any idea when they'd be presenting the full plans to the city as the article mentioned?

Wow is right. That would be amazing.

Time for me to readdress my no-viaduct fantasy map :D

There goes any chance of Target Field Station actually being a transit hub.

Why do you say that? any future commuter train could most likely use the current Northstar platform.

Furthermore, we'd want any _really_ intense transit hub-ness to be underground. Let's work on on the densification that makes a transit hub necessary rather than setting aside phenomenally valuable land for it maybe someday sorta happening.

There's one island with two platforms. A real train hub would generally need many more. That said, I'm not holding my breath we'll get lots more trains any time soon, and we have options to deal with capacity down the road, maybe with some sort of tunneling. More buildings are good in the meantime.

Also, we do have a grade-separated transportation trench on the other side of this that could also be repurposed for train platforms with relatively minimal connectivity... https://goo.gl/maps/wC9EpVcevmhyMkBr6

This looks like a great project, so I definitely hope they build it. Given that ESG mentions they're moving into it once it opens, I think it's pretty solidly a go, no?

Only a few concerns with this:
-I know it's unlikely, but now really would be a good time to talk about viaduct removal.
-Really hope they can improve the 5th Street bridge experience as a pedestrian or biker. Related: The rendering shows a garage entrance right on the bridge. I'd hope they could use the existing 3rd Ave N (or Washington!) entrance for any cars.
-There was some mention of retail, but I hope they get pressed to put in several spots. Given this is right by a light rail station (and future hub where Blue and Green Line extensions meet), it would be great to pull in more convenience retail. This is especially important because the North Loop is a bit of a retail desert.

If they build right up to the 5th Ave viaduct, what happens to the space under it?

Probably reading too much into a single promo image, but it looks like they're setting up for a retail plaza off of 5th St, kinda like the Nordic does over on Washington, which is very cool. Hopefully the CPC pushes back on having car access through it and forces all car access to be via 3rd Ave, but having 3rd be a one-way that dumps anyone not getting onto 394 back onto 5th anyway probably undercuts that plan somewhat.

Gonna be interesting to see the official height on this one - the image shows 16 levels of the apartment tower below the skybridge and above 5th St, so it's gonna be more like 40 stories above the actual ground level.

Not to be a Debbie downer, because I’m really excited about this project. I’ve walked by the area so many times and always find myself asking, when are they going to do something with this. This is really exciting!

Even though the site is a parking lot, and should not take that long to get the necessary city approvals, would they build this office building without securing an anchor tenant? I am just trying to get an idea of a somewhat possible timeline for construction? If all goes according to plan with the city, does anyone think this thing could get started this year, or are we looking more towards next year.

Here is the image of the whole tower from the Strib. What the the thoughts? I wonder if it will be skyway connected through the ramp?

I don't see how with the row of buildings (Public Storage, old Azul night club, etc.) not being demolished. It would need to be some sort of L-shaped skyway over the ramps.
