Totally unrelated article about DMD in Rochester:
http://finance-commerce.com/2014/04/des ... ning-team/
They're choosing the same architects that designed Target Field Station:
Peter Cavaluzzi, a 1984 graduate of the University of Minnesota’s School of Architecture, is the design principal for New York-based EE&K, a Perkins Eastman company. He most recently received local attention for designing the $85 million Target Field Station project that he envisioned as the “Rockefeller Center Plaza of Minneapolis.”

Wow, Rockefeller Plaza AND Grand Central Station all in one feat of architectural wonderment? Take that, New York City!

Sigh. I thought I'd heard the last needless, inaccurate comparison of this light rail stop to Grand Central

Signs are on the platform. The old platform is Target Field Platform 1 and the new platform is Target Field Platform 2.

It is nice operating into the tail tracks. Still training passengers to exit at Target Field.

It was nice being able to catch a northbound train before heading south at Warehouse District during the winter.

"Hey, Target Field Station. Is there anything you'd like to do before opening that you haven't had a chance to do before?"

"Two trains at the same time."

This kind of seems backward. Isn't Platform 2 going to be the more-used one?

Is that a bike stairway leading up the stairs or will there be a railing along there?

I think Peter McGlaughlin posted a picture on twitter of a bike track on a stairway, so you could roll your bike up the stairs.

What a nice amenity for an urban parking ramp project. This will be the most vertically bike accessible parking ramp project in Minneapolis in recent times.

Why start now? It would probably be easier to just change this to snarkymsp.com...

Does the bottom of the station connect to to the Cedar Lake bike trail? In that case wouldn't this be a decent access to the stadium from the trail?

No. Target Field Station is on the other side of the rail trench

They didn't want to offend the existing platform.

So far we have learned:

A) they're leaving the old platform and it will sometimes be used

B) they will still have to hire a dozen "human signs" to keep people from getting run over after games as you can still cross the tracks onto 5th

C) there will no longer be an mtpd station

D) there is no way to connect to the major bike trail extension that cost $7M to install and runs within 20 yards of the station

What we gain:

A) larger place for people to gather before/after twins games

B) a big video board to watch twins games

C) some $266,666 parking spaces to park for twins games

D) a chance for an architect to try out the new LED light posts he saw at a trade show last year

E) a giant "canopy" with no weather protection

Kind of feel like this project deserves the snark it's getting.

Why would anyone be snarky towards Minneapolis' very own Grand Rockefeller Central Terminal?

From the looks of it, it wouldn't be very difficult to add a plexiglass roof to the "canopy". I'd wager that will happen at some point (once enough people complain).
