The slide says riparian character with dam removal and with dam remaining. The river could return to this 1895 state, with islands and more parkland along the shores, if the dams are removed.

It would take more than just removing the dams. The post-dam sediment layer on some of those cross sections is pretty thick.

Which dams are they assuming would be removed? I guess there's a chance the Ford Dam would go away, but are they thinking the St. Anthony Falls dams would go too?

The survey even has plans for the various areas. Even foresightful enough to have a plan in case the dam removal happens and boat tour traffic won’t work.

I’m disappointed the steps from the West Bank campus to the river flats are going to be so minimalist. Grander stairs should be called for.

Segment 3 is of the greatest interest to me, as we live just north of the parkway. 3-1A is my selfish personal choice. 3-1B makes for a far more interesting trail setting south of the creek, but shifting all traffic north gives me the willies.

There's a lot to take in, but these look great (and connecting the Park Ave bike lanes to the trail is one of my personal issues). I guess it's outside the scope here, but if they could include fixing the disaster that is the Parkway/Cedar intersection, that would be good too.

The Field Regina Northrup Neighborhood Group (FRNNG) has been looking closely at Cedar Avenue in general and the intersection of Minnehaha Parkway and Cedar in particular for the past few years. The wheels grind slowly, but every now and then hints pop up of money becoming available over the next couple of years. Beyond general redesign of the intersection, we've been pushing for:

--Elimination of the short stretch of the parkway frontage road between Cedar and the south entrance to Speedway.
--Creation of a refuge island at 47th and Cedar (an additional traffic light at that point will not be approved by the County).

This is all complicated by the fact that Cedar is Hennepin County 152 and the Park Board is responsible for Minneahaha Parkway and its frontage road. Bit by bit, maybe someday, maybe someday....

Of course, if you have a chance to corner an appropriate official to let your voice be heard about this fast and awkward stretch of Cedar, hurrah!

Would also be great to somehow find room for left turn lanes off the Parkway (that might actually be within scope of the trail planning) and I'd like to see the southbound right turn lane on Cedar removed as well (It's little used, although I use it on my cargo bike) and the space used for boulevard on the east side.

My pretty uninformed guess is that you'll be able to get some improvements from the county but the Park Board won't do anything.

Draft concepts for Hiawatha are available. Two have nine hole golf there, a third basically a golf amusement park idea.

Really, who can tell the difference between two plans to keep it a golf course?

It would probably be one the most challenging 9 hole courses in existence.
