Will keep our fingers crossed for an early start to that project. Look forward to the upper promenade to extend a least 3 block on the north side of the greenway.

Great news about the demolition! The center building of this project is by far the best. Can't wait to see that grand stair down to the Greenway.
I couldn't agree more! The middle parcel should be a great place to be! They better not mess up that walkout. That could be a real boon to the area and the entire Greenway.

I hadn't seen too many pictures of the north building so I got one. This is looking west from Colfax.

Elan of Uptown Phase II

Postby Nathan » April 13th, 2013, 4:28 pm

I suppose there could be one thread, but if there is going to be construction going on both at the same time, it could get confusing if there isn't two.

The slate is clean!

Site plans, as of last summer: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups ... 096626.pdf

I think it's very likely that both phases get underway in 2013, as they are the only planned or approved projects in Uptown that are not already under construction. The only other residential project is the Lander Group Project at 2316-20 Colfax, and that's only like 40 units.

Walked by here today, and it really looks like they're gearing up to start the center parcel soon (materials/ equipment accumulating on site.) No movement or demo on the west parcel though.

They are driving sheet piles on the west side of the property now. they are also digging up the asphalt parking lot slowly but surely. This will be an interesting build from the greenway perspective. WIll make for some great summer walks just to see how things are progressing with all of the projects.

Love the limestone looking first level that they are putting on the west and east sections. On the Dupont side it look like scaffolding has been erected to start adding a layer of brick to the upper levels. The weather is changing and more exterior work on all the projects will make them a different look each time you go by. Wish I had a Digital.

Phase 2 (Center Block) is definitely underway.

They have the southern half of the site scraped just about down to grade with the trench. This middle building is the one with the cool walkway that will have a great presence down on the Greenway level.

Took a bike ride today. Phase two is on a section of the trail where there is no drop-off, so it literally sits at trail level. The residents will be able to walk out the door and be at the trail.

If I remember the site plans correctly, the building sits at the same grade as all of the other greenway developments, but there will be a staircase with a cascading pool down to greenway level, and the greenway promenade will have a bridge over this greenway access. The residents will exit into a courtyard, and then can descend to the greenway very easily though. It's convenient that it's already dug down though for the sake of excavation for the parking garages etc etc...

It would be cool to have more walk-outs onto the Greenway. Kind of a shame that these projects are just putting up concrete block walls. This plaza looks cool, though, and I'm happy about the public stair.

That makes sense now that you've explained how it will work. That stair and waterfall will certainly be an original feature along the "trench". On a hot summer day I just may have to help myself to a handful of water on my head.

I never noticed the pedestrian bridge maintaining the at grade sidewalk above all the greenway stairs waterfall awesomeness. Also, two building doors neatly tucked underneath the bridge on opposing ends.

This is going to be a beautiful addition to the Greenway. Wow.
