I know that the amenities get used a lot. There are always a lot of people using the pool area on nice days when it is warm enough to lay out. A majority of the time there are people in the gym when I walk the promenade on my way home from Cub. You can't really beat this location as a place to live. Great area to live.

Is "Elan" some kind of national brand? There's an "Elan Union Station" apartment I saw here in Denver.

I think they're repurposing it from French. Apparently élan means "vigorous spirit or enthusiasm."

I saw the offending staircase yesterday. It looks ridiculous.

Greystar uses the "Elan" name for apartments in many cities that have high quality finishes, etc.

Something seems weird with those stairs.

Is it the current lack of handrails? The riser height looks atypical too.

I guess it's okay but it makes my aesthetic-oriented friends think of Bellagio

I walked by this this morning. It's pretty stunning. They have a waterfall flowing between the two upper staircases. In a few weeks it will be more finished looking, and amazing. Nice to have that stairway down to the Greenway. Awesome.

The promenade is now fully open from Giaurd to Aldrich. I walked it yesterday to get a better look at the center building plaza layout from the bridge.

Saw that today though we haven't walked to Girard yet. It is such a HUGE improvement to have this pedestrian space!

Quick question: did the promenade & public amenity areas on the Elan property fall under the Parkland Dedication Ordinance? Maybe that's a 2-part question: 1) was this property included in the Jan 1, 2014 ordinance (was there something similar before it?), and 2) did the plaza count as the dedication in lieu of carving out space for the MPRB to use or a dedication fee (and was there a design review with the city/MPRB if so?). Can't remember reading anything on it...

My quick response/recollection is that this was approved before the park dedication ordinance. I believe all of Elan II (Center + West) was approved in 2013.

EDIT: Was actually approved in July 2012, right around the time that Phase I broke ground. Staff report is still online, but plans have been taken down: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/meetings/p ... S1P-096307
