Developer says delays from the drawn-out fight caused construction costs to spike too high & they lost a $174k site cleanup grant. Probably a little truth in the former and a lot in the latter in closing down, though Dwyer's inexperience may have meant he didn't get enough pre-sales to go forward.

Glassen of Edgewater & Walkway bought the site. Not sure if they can just move forward with approved plans.

Minor updates added to the above story: ... gh-options

They are not affiliated in any way with the previous developer. At this time, only 4264 Upton (Famous Dave's) has been purchased. They will likely try to buy 4250 Upton as well, but have not secured that property yet. Mark Dwyer actually owns that tiny piece of property. You could definitely get by without 4250 and develop the Famous Dave's site alone: ... 2824420031

Based on the verbiage it sounds like it's going to be 5, or a partial 5th floor. Otherwise they wouldn't mention 5 floors.

I thought the neighborhood was fully against anything taller than a human being?

The neighborhood NIMBYs gave Dwyer so much flak for even 4 stories, I don't know how Gassen will get away with 5. Will he have to start over again? Brace for more neighborhood opposition. Too bad, I liked Dwyer's design and thought it would be a great addition to the neighborhood.
