The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
Blue will be the prevailing color on the back side, while Our wood will dominate the front side, with different shade or gray and tan marking the ends. Main work right now is to finish siding the back side of the building. The dumpster chute has been removed so I'd say that a majority of the interior work is complete. Now I would think that they are working on finishes and painting. The ground podium still has a long way to go for exterior work, although a majority of the windows are now in place. This past week a lot of work was done to get the front plaza ready for concrete next week I'd say. No balconies have been hung yet. Think they want the sidewalks in first for stability for their lifts.

I used to think this would be a transformative project for Uptown, but walking by today I feel like this one just really emphasizes the McDonalds surface lot and the empty Calhoun Square space.
Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
Oh it will probably still help to transform the area along with Moziac II or III? A good smart developer hopefully will look at the McDonalds parking lot and build over it still allowing McDonalds to stay or become incorporated into something new. Well here's hoping anyway.I used to think this would be a transformative project for Uptown, but walking by today I feel like this one just really emphasizes the McDonalds surface lot and the empty Calhoun Square space.

Agree that The Walkway stands alone too much and needs some buildings of similar size around it to make the area look more complete. However, if you want the feeling of how dense and urban Uptown is becoming walk across the 29th street bridges on either Lyndale or Hennepin Ave and look out at all the new apartments along the Midtown Greenway. Very impressive.
Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
To be sure, I'm not at all knocking this project. More just pointing out that the last couple years have greatly raised expectations, which is a good thing.

Completely agree. Love the area and the vibes from the buildings here!If you want the feeling of how dense and urban Uptown is becoming walk across the 29th street bridges on either Lyndale or Hennepin Ave and look out at all the new apartments along the Midtown Greenway. Very impressive.

I'm pretty excited for Coup D'Etat to open in this building. The folks at Borough/Parlour have excellent taste. http://blogs.citypages.com/food/2013/08 ... ncepts.php

Here are some recent photos I took, the first is from New Year's Day, the second from today. I'm really liking this building:

^^^ Thanks for the updated photos. I like it too and the balconies are well placed. The coloration of the exterior is a bit more subdued than it looked in the renderings and I think that's all for the better. The street level will add a lot of energy to the Uptown scene in the summer.
Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
the facade on the north side is really cool, smooth grey panels and then vertical strips of unfinished corrugated metal. definitely a great building for the area.
Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
I'm still not sold on the street level of this building. While the north does have the grey and smooth mixed with the oxidize CorTen panels. I'm seeing a lot of what appears to be cement board in much of the other areas.
Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
I agree, trying to reserve judgement until I can see the final product here. One of the things I do find odd is that they choose to go with pine trees for the sidewalk.... Again trying to reserve too much judgement though.
Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
I think the pine trees are there to keep green along there all year round. Also you don't have the worry of needing deep roots. But will be interesting to see how they survive along there.

They are Fir trees, and they're bizarre. I assumed they were just holiday trees judging by the lame trim job.

Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
They have finished installing the Kasota Stone around what I believe will the apartment section entrance on Lake. They are working on the other Kasota section under the over hanging pool. Still a lot of unfinished concrete board that will have to get painted or covered . The street level of Lagoon is now easily walkable with no fence or equipment in site. Coup D'tat will open next week. Looks like all of the balconies have been hung now. So mainly just first and second floor finishing work is all that is left to do.
