Anybody know a good place to get tortas? Like a real good authentic torta? I went to Rojo (not my choice) and ordered one; it was horrible, basically was a lunchroom chicken sandwich.

Manny's Tortas? Or perhaps ThreadJack's Torta Palace.

Yes Manny''s Tortas in the Midtown Commons is good. They may even have another location. The one further east on Lake is no longer there. But I thought he had 3 locations.

There are about a dozen taquerias along Lake Street that make good tortas.

I was like, Rojo? The hell is that? Then google autocompletes with "st louis park" and "edina". No wonder. And I shouldn't have looked at the reviews: out-of-towners going out there from cities where you get authentic Mexican then complaining that MSP doesn't have good Mexican restaurants when they visited a Mexican restaurant in the burbs, which by definition is not MSP! Ugh. I don't go to a Long Island pizza joint and complain about how NYC doesn't know how to make pizza. And this is before we get the SWLRT to open our selves up to more ridicule due to visitors lumping us in with the burbs (Thank you Mpls city council for opening the floodgates) but I digress. A restaurant within a restaurant I'm just going to have to see for myself cuz my brain can't wrap itself around the concept.

And I've officially dubbed 48th & Chicago "Downtown Nokomis West" and 50th & 34th "Downtown Nokomis East". Because Downtown Keewaydin-Minnehaha just doesn't roll off the tongue and it's the only commercial district of any significance on the east side of the neighborhood and parallels the Downtown comparison since more stuff is going on in the west side than east.

Word from the co-owner is it's going to be open from 4pm to 1am, dubbed the nocturnal diner. This has been something I've wanted for a longgg time.

I meant one that's not in a core area like dinkytown or uptown or such. Just on a corner in a neighborhood

Suweet. Better be better than (or just open) than Nicollet Diner which is supposed to be open for 24 hours. Gonna have to justify bypassing what's virtually around the corner for a 20 block trek.

According to their Facebook, the Nicollet Diner was finally able to schedule their final inspection and should be able to open "between the 5th and the 6th". I'll believe it when I see it, of course, but I'm excited.

Because if it doesn't serve Minneapolisite, it's not good enough for anyone.

A sneak peak at the menu:

I don't know what to think about the "Minnesoter Dog" but the corned beef hash looks pretty awesome!

The article states that opening is at the end of April.

Is swearing still a thing? I guess people are still pretty sensitive. Isis is beheading people and people are concerned about a chef swearing? Word of caution if you think swearing is bad, never eat out. All the food you're eating has been cursed over many. MANY. times.

That sounds awesome! I'll happily give my money to anything that benefits MLK park, as I play softball there (for free) every Thursday, all summer long.

P.S. Join Kingfield Softball this summer!!

Great article on the opening this week:

It's nice to see the sidewalk seating! Once the 40-seat patio is done in the fall, this corner will really be happening outside!

That's great about Nighthawk's and all, but I'd like to hear more about Kingfield Softball.
