Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
That was Schulo's Grocery Store. Family owned it and lived above for a few generations if I remember.^ This one is also R2B https://goo.gl/maps/NTig6xb7RK22 Wife and I toured it when looking for a place almost 2 years ago. Though I'm not sure if it was converted to residential before or after the zoning change.

This is one of my favorite residences in the Wedge:

That's a greenhouse behind all that...er...greenery. I always think there's a pot operation going on there when I walk by.

I'm not sure that's a residence... ?my band used a record studio in that building for our final album. But that was a few years ago, and the greenhouse just had a bunch of storage and equipment in it unfortunately

Yeah that's it, still operating there. Maybe the owner lives there too?
Located in an extensively redesigned florist’s warehouse, Flowers makes great use of the building’s architectural assets. The large control room, 3 iso booths, and 28′x33′x20′ main tracking room accommodate ensembles of varying sizes in bright, naturally-lit spaces. Clients can often be found between takes relaxing in the 20′x70′ greenhouse patio located directly outside the control room.

Huh. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm going on information from neighbors who said they know the residents.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
Sad, but there is nothing surprising in that story.

Le Parisien was a train wreck from the start

I wish that staircase was getting restored. It's awful.

Hindsight 20/20 and everything, but man, why didn't Hennepin County just move the library back here (making the necessary ADA improvements, etc.) and sell off the other library parcel? It's a gorgeous building that really ought to be a civic use.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
Back when the new library was being conceived, I posted about buying the old property and putting a tunnel between them. I'm not convinced the old building could serve all the purposes the new building does, but together they could do even more.
Yes, I know that's an expensive and disruptive proposition but as you say, civic investment is important.

New 'Turkey Guys' 4-plex at 2424 Lyndale Avenue S: http://apps.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/PIApp/ ... 2924140031
The old house (built 1893) already appears to be divided into a multi-unit building - it is listed as a duplex on Hennepin Co records. Appears to have been vacant since late 2013 and there was a big list of correction items from the point-of-sale inspection last year. I'd guess the large amount of deferred maintenance is what led to the decision to tear down & replace. OR2 zoning allows them to go higher/bigger than simply replacing with another duplex.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
Too bad. It's a lot cuter on the outside than what will probably replace it.

The inside was supposedly stripped for salvage a while back.

Certainly tells a different tale (often in the advocates own words) than the claims that Wedge residents & homeowner heroes have advocated for density along the edges of the neighborhood. R4 allows a FAR of 1.5 and maximum height of 4 stories, which most would call the "missing middle" zoning overlay rather than "high density."

Also reinforces the notion here that "gentrification" = "change I don't like," in that some people don't like downzoning and conversion to SFHs.
It's good history to know, nonetheless.
