According to the new Planning dashboard, an application was submitted on Monday for a new two-story mixed-use building at 3840 Minnehaha. Could someone have cracked the code on how to build a classic apartment-over-storefront building again?

Holiday is proposing to rebuild the gas station at the corner of Hiawatha Ave and 46th St. It will be at the planning commission next week.

More activity at 46th and Minnehaha: an apartment proposal for the SE corner is on the CPC agenda for next Monday. 123 units, 76 parking stalls, and 4,000 sq ft of commercial space fronting Minnehaha. Looks pretty good!

Here's the current status of the workforce housing Amber Apartments (4525 Hiawatha Ave), next to the old Flair Fountains building (4501 Hiawatha Ave), which was originally Fire Station 24, where the first all-Black fire crew in Minneapolis operated. I believe it is now historically designated. There was a Strib article about that back in December. I saw the awning being removed from that building yesterday.

A few different angles on The Shale Apartments (4757 Hiawatha Ave) on the old Bridgeman's site, which their website says will open in August. Difficult to get a good angle on it due to the utility construction that's been happening along the north side of Minnehaha Parkway for well over a year now.

This lot is the same area (0.44 acres) as the Dairy Queen behind it. Amazing how much building you can fit in there when there are minimal setback distances.

I'm glad there is more density being built along Hiawatha. Personally, I wouldn't want to live along 55. Minnehaha is terrific however.

Dirt being moved this morning at 3801 Hiawatha. Is this for something, or are they just landscaping the empty lot?

Hmmm, I don’t remember if this one was approved.

Glad to see that one moving forward!

Not sure we need more self storage on Hiawatha but I definitely wish some of my street parking neighbors would look into it.

The Holiday station at 46th and Hiawatha that was built to replace the one that burned during the unrest following George Floyd's murder was open when I went by on Sunday. Construction fencing is still up around much of the site except for the driveways. It was beginning to snow a little, so I didn't try to check on the sidewalk entrance.

They're doing foundation work at 3801 Hiawatha, though they're somewhat shallow compared to what I usually expect to see in MN. First two shots from April 20th when they were digging trenches. Yesterday (April 26th), it appeared the base layers had already been poured and mostly set.

Hwy 55 will be resurfaced soon. The project states that there will be accessibility updates at intersections, and interchange improvements at Lake Street. I really hope they can include some additional bicycle and pedestrian improvements in this project as well.
