I came across some good news for the Hi-Lake intersection last night. Evidently a public art installment is coming in October.

"What will emerge in the fall is a series of large-scale monarch butterflies on both sides of the sidewalk on E. Lake St. at the Hi-Lake intersection. A combination of steel sculpture and mosaic, the installations will add an organic, artistic texture to the industrial-feeling walkway underneath the Metro Transit Bridge."

More good news: the restaurant space facing the new transit plaza has a tenant: https://hennepin.novusagenda.com/agenda ... tingID=574

An all day restaurant called "Eden" run by the Gandhi Mahal people.

It also looks like Target has started mobilizing for their renovation project.

Are there any details on how long the renovation is expected to take? Looks like quite the setup with that whole corner of the parking lot taken up with the tents and materials.

If I remember correctly, they're remodeling it to resemble the Northeast store (which is the test model store for Targets around the country). When they redid that one, it took something like 3 months, I believe.

Well with the school on the backside basically done it looks like they are turning their attention towards the frontside with the old rainbow and parking lot. Came home today to find the strip of 27th ave that ran in front of the store front schooner to the intersection by wendy's is now fenced off and the fencing layout in the parking lot is all different as well.

I noticed that the car detailing store at the SE corner of Lake-Hiawatha looked like it was empty this morning, no cars in the parking lot (there usually are tons) and it looked pretty empty on the inside. Anyone know what's going on there?

They've started tearing off the front awning bit of the old Rainbow. Looks like the strip will be getting a face lift.

Much to my surprise they are tearing down quite a bit more of the old Rainbow and strip than I had expected. From what my understanding was from the community meeting last year was that they were going to reuse/repurpose the old building for the new tenants instead of constructing something new. I guess that changed? Not sure what the plan is now.

The apartment buliding behind the Hennepin County Service Center, at Lake & 22nd, has a name: Southsider.

Evidently along with whatever they are doing with the old Rainbow strip the Wendy's there is also getting an overhaul. Looks like they are updating the aesthetic of the interior and building to reflect the look of other newer Wendys instead of looking like the ones built in the 90's.

As for the Rainbow, it seems they've finished with all the tearing out of various things and are starting to build. No idea what will be in there or how it's slated to look at the end though. Surely nicer than a dead empty grocery store at least lol.

My first reaction to seeing the Wendy's remodel was rats, it's not being torn down. This means it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

At least on the upside with the Wendy's update it won't look massively out of place with all the other new facades on Cub/Target and whatever the new Rainbow ends up looking like.

Aldi on the east side of Hiawatha will be having a "grand opening" on December 13th at 9am, according to signs inside the Aldi on the west side of Hiawatha.

Nice! Was there any word/sign on what is next to that new Aldi in the other part of the building?

Also, the Target remodel finished up in the last week or two. Major improvement, looks way better.

Looks like they took down all the chain link fencing that was in the parking lot in the last day or so, the ALDI is looking good and looking on track for that Dec 13th target Still no idea what is going in the other half of the building, anyone heard? The exterior is coming along and it looks like there is something already set up to go in there, there just haven't been any signs saying anything.

Hmmm, doesn't look like they are going to have it all done in 10 days to me. Aldi is supposed to be open for business on 12/13? I guess if they have the inside done already, they will just have the outside to finish and clean up. Have you seen where the deliveries will be made? I haven't noticed any docks.

Overheard a cashier at the other Lake St Aldi last night talking about how they're still on track for December 13 opening on the other side of Hiawatha.
