Nicollet Ave / Eat Street - Whittier, Stevens, Loring Park
Re: Nicollet Ave / Eat Street - Whittier, Stevens, Loring Park
So... the city is going to acquire this land? And then what?
Also, first I've heard about the feud. Details?

I have a friend that has been really interested in this building for a while, for the exact use that is listed. Any advice on how they should show interest in purchasing?So... the city is going to acquire this land? And then what?

More or less, Eat Street-adjacent, since this is over on 26th and Blaisedell.

And a large house that looks like it's subdivided into apartments.

Looks like the beautiful old church currently occupied by the 7th Day Adventists at 24th and Nicollet is listed for sale.
I'm not sure if this building is historically protected, but I'd be surprised if this could be easily demolished.

The church is part of the Washburn-Fair Oaks Historic District.

The duplex(?) on the north half of this lot came down a few weeks ago. The Goldstein law building is still standing and looks to still be in use.More or less, Eat Street-adjacent, since this is over on 26th and Blaisedell.

In other paired one-way news, the one story medical office building on 27th and 1st has a fence around it, with backhoes digging up the parking lot. Fence has a sign for Frana construction and the parcel owner is listed at North Bay co's address. Anyone know what's happening here?

Little T's building right off of eat street and 26th is for sale. It's a two story building with 2 apartments above.

Anyone know what's happening on the SE corner of 26th St and 1st Ave? New block foundation going in but I haven't seen anything about a building proposed there. I think there's a banner for Frana on one of the fences but some light googling has not produced any information.

Did some heavier googling and found out it's going to be a 2-story yoga studio by Yess Yoga. http://www.whittieralliance.org/uploads ... .10.19.pdf

Star Tribune reporting that the two-story property at 19 W 26th St in Whittier (sandwiched between old Yess Yoga Space and Little Tijuana's) will be bought by the City of Lakes Community Land Trust. The CLCLT will purchase the building, rehabilitate it, and ultimately sell it to a minority-owned business through a "rent-to-buy" program.
I think this is a great development in this part of town: preserving diversity and affordability in Whittier will prevent it from that homogenized Uptown feel. However, I was hoping for a larger-scale development that would span more of the block--between Yess Yoga moving and Little Tijuana's seemingly being closed, this is a pretty desolate corner centrally located in the middle of a lively corridor.

I really dont see Whittier ever becoming like uptown just like I dont see uptown even turning into something like Whittier and thats a good things on both ends.
As for the programs assuming the city doesnt lose money on the deal it seems like a win win for all parties and one that is needed now more then ever given how much local business are hurting and would encourage more local ownership of these properties for the future.
