The old mid-century Woolworth's building at 428 Minnesota is finally going to get some love.

http://www.twincities.com/2016/04/27/st ... -makeover/

Interesting to note, it was STILL leased. Wahh?
Woolworth’s long-term land lease expired last year, giving the building owner the full go-ahead to move in an entirely new direction. By next summer, it plans to have the site ready for office tenants--

I don't get into downtown St Paul often, is this project moving forward?

They could be blocked with bollards or planters in a potential reuse situation.

Last month it received an asbestos clean-up grant - so it must be!

I just happened across this yesterday myself. Had we missed this one on the forum entirely until now? No idea it was happening, and now it's almost up.

The old Diva's on Geranium and Rice has been bulldozed recently. Have no idea what will go there. Maybe more parking for the small grocery store that stands next to it.

[Bangkok Thai Deli, the Asian restaurant which resides in a former Burger King on St. Paul’s University Avenue, will soon have a second location.

The restaurant broke ground today on a second location in the Rice Street neighborhood, in the spot where Diva’s bar used to reside. The building, which has been vacant since 2010, will be torn down in favor of new construction.]

Chatted with the people behind it at the groundbreaking. The old Streamline Moderne building had foundation issues, and the tax credits they'd need to fix that would cause problems adding windows. I haven't seen the plans, but they said it would have the same basic footprint. Really excited to have them nearby!

There is a new buyer for the Pioneer Press building. Interesting that they are moving from away from "upscale".

No plan to close the other store as of yet.
The drive-thru at this new Snelling-Marshall Starbucks is a mess. Tiny parking lot.

Also, the old Snelling-Selby Starbucks is closed.

Can you elaborate on where the mess is? We brought up that Starbucks when the 4700 Cedar Starbucks was planned. Is the mess on people getting into or out of the site?

The parking lot is too small to accommodate an adequate drive through, so there are constantly queuing cars blocking the parking spaces. Basically they just tried to fit too much into a small space.

It is indeed is a mess. They are in danger of not meeting the conditions of their CUP. City staff has been directed to find a solution.
It may just be a customer learning curve, but we at the neighborhood level were pretty sure it was going to be a disaster.
In the AM cars queue up blocking access to the parking, block traffic on snelling, 'block the box' on Marshall, and often park in the bike lane waiting.

Though anything slowing traffic on Snelling is good, the lazy drive-thru users also block the A-Line station.

Line was stretched two cars onto Marshall at 7:30 this morning.
