WOW. The rehab of the existing building looks great! The addition, not so much.

Wouldn't it be nice if they were doing something like this at 10th and Marquette?

It does leaving you wanting more. Exeter has done some nice projects, so I'm a little surprised.

I agree (that it leaves you wanting more). Especially after reading the PDF which mentions numerous times the importance of maintaining the "rhythm" of the street with similar dimensions for the buildings. Why the setback when they could just fill in the blank space between the C & E lofts with the corner building? Seems like that would honor the rhythm of the street more than the proposed plan.

Historic district = earth tones!

The latest edition of the Villager indicates that the HPC voted against (5-1) the proposal.

Was there any solid reasons given for the no vote?

Staff and commissioners were concerned the addition would jeopardize the entire historic district designation and historic structure tax credits available to future projects.

OK, Sounds like a solid reason and not just some fly by the seat of your pants objection. Don't want to jeopardize the district for one project.

The St. Paul City Council overruled the HPC, so this will apparently be going ahead. Cool.

It's back, with a brick color.

Why this isn't being built over the surface parking lot...

Construction has just started within the last week. Construction fence is up and trailer is onsite.

This new building is easy to miss, since it doesn't back up to University, but upon closer inspection the structure appears to be topped out. From afar, the building is bigger than I expected. That's good news for the Raymond-University area.

Good overview, despite the liberal definition of Raymond Avenue station.

They are advertising 2-3 retail spots on the University side of this building now. Similarly, it was reported a few weeks ago that the Gremlin Theater that was formerly here will be coming back at the Vandalia Tower complex down the road.

That's crazy. I take the green line quite often. I never noticed that there was a building being constructed over there. I love seeing them add additional residential units near the train :-)
