I take back anything bad I've ever said about the Saints stadium, and St Paul for that matter too:

Ugh. I really hope they make admission free (even if limited, etc.) I think enthusiasm really flagged when they moved it and charged last time. That said, amazing how many people packed at Walker Open Field when it's there.

I think they're in a much better position to charge admission because it won't also require admission to the fair, like 2 years ago. The field was clearly too small, and I'm not sure if there really are larger fields that exist in the city that could be used for this.

Are the seats not all one color? If you look at the webcam (you need to go back a couple days since they just installed a fence) it seems like there are 3 or 4 different colors of seats installed so far. Was that the plan?

They are various shades of gray dotted with yellow seats.

Huh. Guess I missed that memo. I like the look actually, reminds of Met Center.

Wow, too bad it wasn't oriented so home plate is where the left field corner is right now. Great view.

This is something that could work quite well in the Commons.

Correct, it wouldn't have been doable.

Yep. The field is oriented almost the perfect way. Ideally, the line from 3rd base to 1st base is south. That is why lefties are called southpaws, because they are facing south when in the stretch.

Some day archaeologists will look at the way ballparks were aligned with the heavens and determine that they served a religious or astrological purpose, with huge masses of people coming together at one time to commune on sacramental food and drink while watching a ritual that's held as sacred but holds no direct benefit be played out.

Huh.

Treasure Island's sponsorship brings pirate ship theme to Saints' ballpark

http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/b ... -ship.html

This makes Treasure Island a founding partner of both baseball stadiums in town. I find that very interesting. If I am thinking about going to gamble I always think of Mystic Lake Casino first. TI's strategy might not be working...

It's a little hard to tell if they are actually building a pirate ship or if it's just a theme. Quote from story:
The pirate ship terrace will be used by private groups of 125 to 150 people, with a ship-deck level and below-deck level. The deck has a view of the downtown skyline.
I'm glad to hear it sounds like the independent league antics will be around. :)

I went here today for the "choose your seat" open house. Walked around the entire 360 concourse. They have done a very nice job. From the outfield there are wonderful views of DT SP. I wonder about the noise when the EB 94 to SB 52 ramp opens up. It is *right* there off the left field concourse.
The architecture really reminds me of Surly's new home. Lot's of dark metal offset with natural woodwork.

The first games were played here yesterday, where the Hamline University Pipers and Concordia College Cobbers (from Moorhead) had a doubleheader. I poked my head in as they were warming up:

They were still installing seats on the southern end.

A look from the east side of the field toward Highway 52:

There is an east-side gate for anyone who might be coming in off the trails or parking lots over there:

Went to the opener last Thursday and I've got to say this really is a fantastic addition to Lowertown. The ballpark itself is not extraordinary, but it doesn't have to be. It is a no-nonsense park but it really is all about the setting- really a terrific atmosphere. The one bad thing I could say is that there were some really long concession lines, though I'm hoping that can just be chalked up to under-prepared workers.
