Central (George Latimer) Library renovations

This library was renovated not that long ago. Beyond renovating the circulation space which is somewhat cramped, I personally don't think the Nicholson Commons nor the Mississippi Room need any renovation. It seems like they are paring down the stacks, which would be a shame.

"It's not just a construction project. It's the change in use that I'd like more information about," Thune said in an interview. "I think it's great that Friends have raised the money, but there's a number of questions -- does it do a disservice to the actual library by taking away that much space? And the other question is, is this the best space for a business resource center?"

Wow -- I actually agree with Dave Thune! I really think the downtown St. Paul library is terrific. I'd hate to start seeing them prune so many materials. They say they are shifting around, but I don't know where they have the space to absorb what would be moved out of the other rooms, unless they start removing the reference desks.
