Highland Park water storage tank

Postby Cat349F » May 2nd, 2021, 8:10 pm

The inground water storage tank on the west side of Highland National is being removed. The space will be turned into athletic fields once removal is complete.
The tank is 18,000,000 gallons, nearly 100 years old, leaked quite a bit for the last 20 years of it’s use, and has been decommissioned for the last five years.
Pics when it gets opened up.

It's funny that such an ugly and utilitarian thing can be a landmark, but I think it really is in this area. You can see these water towers from quite far away (i can see them from my office in downtown Saint Paul, and it gives an idea where my Minneapolis house is behind it).

To be clear, this is the concrete reservoir that is buried in the hill below the Highland Water Tower.

Construction fence has erected in the Snelling/Ford Parkway parking lot. No word on exact start date.
The overhead power lines between the tower and the tank are borderline on whether they can stay or not. New finish grades are lower than existing ground around the poles. 6’ difference on the one on the NE corner of the tank.

The concrete is almost gone. The soccer field will be graded out and seeded this coming week.

Major delay on the parking lot work, the soil conditions are unsuitable for a water infiltration tank. Back to the design team.

Either this year or next, a sidewalk on the east side of Snelling will be installed from Ford Parkway down to Bohland.

Back at it. Curbs and sidewalks this next week, paving the week after on the north parking lot.
