Wayzata's development "boom" is bringing restaurants seeking a more wealthy "urban" neighborhood, leading to a restaurant boom where simply proximity to other restaurants is the reason more want to be there.

So this is going in Excelsior. The town seems to be getting exactly the kind of small scale development they asked for.

It’ll be hemmed in by a funeral home, a post office, and a noxious gas station. A unit will likely go for more than a million. But it’ll sell in a heartbeat because Excelsior.

Proposal to redevelop the Wayzata Brew Works/Boat Works into a five story multi use. Condos.

It’s a fine thing to see the western side of Wayzata get attention. I’d like the regional trail network from Hopkins to get a more direct link to Wayzata some year. And soon!

Only real way good trail connection from Hopkins to Wayzeta I see is putting a trail on Mcginty Rd and have it connect to to the Minnetonka LRT trail at Minnetonka Blvd, but that's mainly from personal experience since my family use to have this round trip where we would bike towards Carver Park Reserve and cut through it to get to St Bonifacius on Highway 7 for a bit and then take the Dakota rail trail to Wayzeta before ending up back on the Minnetonka LRT trail via Mcginty Rd.

Plans for 15 luxury homes on site of what is currently Blake School on the west side of Wayzata.

Blake originally said they wanted the site to go to something that would benefit the community. Well, I suppose collecting taxes on luxury homes will benefit the community.

What's going on is private school tuition is getting out of reach of being affordable for the Middle Class- the school I went to tuition has quadrupled since the 1990s while ordinary inflation has only doubled. You also have charter schools and homeschooling. So the kids are (to an even greater extent than they've always been, at private schools in general and even more at Blake) 1%-ers or on scholarships so enrollment has been going down. Meanwhile "Early Learning Centers"- grouping Pre-K, K, and 1st Grade, are becoming a thing. The Wayzata site is a legacy from when multiple schools merged into Blake, and they decided to cash out, downsize and consolidate their lower school to their Hopkins site, and use the proceeds to build new Early Childhood Learning Center building there.

Luxury homes don't pay that much in taxes when you look at it per acre. Hopefully they build luxury apartments or condos instead.

Homeowners from the surrounding neighborhood, which includes large lots and homes spread far apart, weren't pleased with the scale and density of the project.
John Sexter, who lives across from the proposed development, called the plan shocking and absurd, comparing the row of continuous homes to Maple Grove.

"If it's going to be housing, it should revert to estate lots," Sexter said. "To keep it cohesive, it should be the same as the surrounding neighborhood."
