Was not particularly impressed with the new Walgreens. It just isn't the same without a full-service pharmacy there.

Is there a minute clinic of any kind at the mall?

Sears store will close in March, this announcement coming on the same day that all other Sears(and KMart) stores may join them.

Anyone care to give thoughts on what MOA will do with the Sears space? Tear it down for a taller office building or another hotel? Or try to fill it in like they did (or are still doing) with Bloomingdale's?

Sears owns the building, so it really depends on whether they sell it to MOA (as Bloomingdale's did) or if Sears subleases it themselves (if their existing agreements with the mall even allow them to do so). Probably whatever is better for Sears' creditors.

My preference (and maybe MOA owners' preference too) would be to *not* split it up like Bloomingdale's. Pretty sure the 2nd floor of that space is still vacant. Will they bring back the idea of adding Bass Pro Shops, but in Sears' space instead of a new anchor expansion to the north (as was planned many years ago, but is now off the table)?

Bass would be a great replacement. They could probably fill all of the space and it would be something that the MOA doesn't already have. There would be a bit of overlap with places like L.L. Bean and the other outdoor retailers, but OTOH I could also see those stores benefiting from all the customers Bass would bring.

Any chance there's space for a functional mainstream department store alongside Nordstrom and Macy's? Maybe Von Maur or something?

This property must be one of the most valuable in their portfolio.

Von Maur might work there, and they've said that they want to open more stores in this market (plus they tend to follow in the wake of other closed department stores). I can't think of any others offhand, though.

Department stores in general are just not the big deals they were in 1992, especially when three of the four that opened with the mall were new to the market (this was well before the events that led to all the Macy's locations in the Twin Cities).

Good spot for another large restaurant similar to the Hard Rock Cafe maybe?

Love to see "creative accounting" in a headline about municipal finances. What could possibly go wrong?

Some of the backstory about how PFA helped Triple Five Group restart the American Dream megamall project in New jersey is here:

The bond issue was unrated. No mention of yields. Somehow this is all legal. Fantastic little loophole they've found here.

While MOA is losing more tenants, it is gaining more events. Yesterday, MOA was announced as the host for the 3X3U National Championship. It's a 3x3 basketball tournament where the champion conference will split $100,000. FTR, the B1G Ten is the "defending" national champion, so I know whom I'll be rooting for. And best of all, it's free.

A neighboring water park operator objects to the financing scheme of the MOA expansion. Unlocked.

I hate that Great Wolf closed it's waterpark to public access, and now bitches about competing waterparks.
