Even if an additional greenway bridge wasn't added, what about this wooden one? And as I googled that I saw that the population of Nicollet Island is only 144!!! (2000 estimate) What's the deal, I thought this was a populated area torn down under the guise it was considered a "slum", but that hasn't been the case for how long and yet, no developments occurring there. Weird.

And the tiny bit of it that isn't parkland or the high school is houses and condos, which aren't going away any time soon. If I remember right, Phyllis Kahn lives there.

Looks like a section on the Hiawatha LRT Trail that is missing lights will finally be added between 11th Ave S and E 26th St.

Great news! It can be a little unnerving riding through there at night sometimes.

Had a debate with my urban neighbors tonight regarding biking, Park/Portland, etc. at NNO. Still have a ways to go with public opinion. 8-o

There will always be improvements needing to be made, public opinion will always be here. But yes there is still a ways to go and the good thing is were still heading in the right direction

Are people still mad about the Park/Portland lane reductions? They're still raceways for many to/from downtown even reduced to 2 lanes.

Yep, that's still a big issue. I bet it is with your neighbors too. And I asked what the problem was.... the speed limit reduction. But people still drive 35-40, and there's rarely ever congestion even with 2 lanes instead of 3. Perceived problem, not real problem.

Totally. People still drive the old speed limits (or higher) anyway, can get away with it because of the light timing, and I've never seen any enforcement on either of those roads.

I never heard much griping in my neighborhood but it's pretty heavily pro-bike around where I live and several of my neighbors are daily or heavy users of the portland/park bike lanes.

I was in San Fransisco recently and noticed this at an intersection with a bike lane. Thought you all would appreciate it.

I don't know how many of you have seen this but I was looking through a lot of the master plan and it gets me very very hopeful. If the city keeps their word and follows the plan we should be working more on building the perfect biking community by 2020. The biggest one that stuck out was elementary and middle schools will educate kids with bike curriculum.. Wow

Given the city's track record on the Bassett Creek Valley Master Plan, don't get your hopes up.

This was approved in 2011. Bassetts master plan was improved back in 06' and looks more like a dream plan than something that is more realistic to happen.

On that note the city is a lot more serious about their bicycling initiatives due to the recognition that they get for it, a lot of the objectives in the plan are already coming out. Such as the Bluff St. Trail and the plan for the North Minneapolis greenway which has it's own website and is going through public support right now

Edit: I'll e-mail James Voll on the issue though

That's certainly true when the city wants to break promises and keep the impound lot where it is.

Pardon me if I don't jump for joy. White privilege all over again.
