The process begins. Come back in four years to find out the conclusion.

Any thoughts as to how transit fits into that corridor? Does rebuilding bridges here make sense?

And does “on street” bike lanes mean protected bike lanes, as it apparently does when Hennepin redoes roads in Richfield?

Make sense? I wish they more strongly considered going back to the historic design with a traffic circle. Broadway is under 12K, Lowry brings in about 6K, the parkway carries 4200.

Put Broadway/Lowry/Oakdale back to a traffic circle at grade, with the parkway and bike trails grade separated going under. We'd have two small overpasses rather than large oversized freeway-style overpasses. Having Broadway turn into a freeway design makes everything terrible

Your idea makes much more sense than Hennepin County’s.

It appears the central avenue bridge will be closed for close to two years due to a significant rehab project.

1. Seems like a great opportunity to *at a minimum* flip the bike lane to the outside of the jersey barrier, so both bicyclist and pedestrians are protected from motorists.
2. I wonder what this would have looked like if Lisa Goodman hadn't blocked a three lane 3rd Ave profile through downtown.
3. I don't even see the need for four lanes through the bridge. If anything, have a three lane profile, where there's one lane in each direction entering the bridge and two lanes exiting the bridge (flip the direction of the center lane somewhere in the middle of the bridge). Motorists fly across this bridge, and the backups only seem to happen at the stoplights at the ends of the bridge. A three lane profile should be feasible even with four lane profiles at the opposite ends of the bridge.
4. What would it look like to have a dedicated transit lane here? Personally I'd rather just see the inside lanes of the oversized six lane Hennepin Ave bridge become dedicated transit lanes with dedicated bus signals at each end to connect buses to Nicollet, 4th/University, etc.

I wonder if this is being done now to open the Hennepin bridge for E Line construction to start in 2023. I've also wondered what the future of transit looks like on the "L" route between downtown and 35W. Many express buses use central ave from Marq2 to 35W. With the E Line on Hennepin I wondered if they would be consolidated.

It makes sense to consolidate buses onto Hennepin since the bridge has excess lane capacity. The only problem is that squeezing dedicated bus lanes onto Hennepin would be difficult between 1st and Washington. A dedicated bus lane around River Towers and Voya would work well for southbound buses to Nicollet (local) and Marquette (express) with a few dedicated signal phases.

So the Central Ave bridge will be closed for the same three years that Hennepin Ave is ripped up. Cool, great planning all.

Well, it wouldn't be fair for the 4, 6, and 61 to be detoured for three years without also sharing the pain and detouring the 10, 17, and 25.

Just gotta figure out a way to detour the 11 to keep them from getting complacent.

Mill & Overlay began today on University Ave. Keep an eye on this as they try to keep promises. Other roads that are getting restriping soon are 10th Ave SE and 15th Ave SE. Those should be following these layouts

10th Ave: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups ... 204889.pdf

15th Ave: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups ... 204890.pdf

Per Reddit, the Freemont Bridge over the Midtown Greenway got torn down yesterday. It's been pedestrian only for the last couple years due to structural issues. Plan is to replace it for car/bike/ped use.

The Twin Cities Marathon has been detoured onto Marquette Ave from Hennepin Ave. I presume they overlooked Nicollet Mall given how narrow it is. Funny thing is Twin Cities in Motion kept the change pretty quiet.

Anyone know why 4th Street past Park Ave downtown is closed? A quick internet search didn't come up with anything. It is really snarling traffic. As I was walking to the river yesterday an ambulance had to go into the protected bike lane to get around a Metro Transit bus blocking the intersection.

Looks like they are doing work on the 11th Ave bridge over 4th by the stadium. 11th Ave is closed as well and there was equipment of some sort under the bridge.

Looks like the Lake and Excelsior intersection has eastbound Lake traffic using the new bend.

It looks like there was an open house yesterday on Ramsey County's plans for repaving/reconfiguring Energy Park Drive from Everett Court (near Raymond) to Lexington. https://www.ramseycounty.us/residents/r ... esurfacing

This one has been so high on my wish list, I never thought it would happen (much less this year)!
