Re: Green Line (Central)
Noticed they are planting the medians in the vicinity of Vandalia- pavement roses and Carl forester grasses. It will look great if it is actually wedded and maintained. In the narrower areas such as near Territorial, they are laying old granite pavers. It's a really sharp look.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Green Line (Central)
Sounds awesome!
Re: Green Line (Central)
I think I read somewhere that those granite pavers were recovered from in between the old streetcar tracks that were underneath the paving on University and only recently removed.

Yeah, Christina Morrison said so on her blog:

Yep, that is where I saw it! It is a nice nod to the past.

Re: Green Line (Central)
To add my comments about the route changes:
- 3 and 62 should run on the same streets in Downtown St. Paul and have schedules modified to provide 15 minute service on Rice St.
- 3 and Owl 16 should run on Washington between Cedar and Chicago to provide better connections to the Mill District and 7 Corners.
- I'm surprised that the deviation to Prior was kept on the 87. I've always considered it to not be too useful.

Glad they're keeping more 94 service. Until there's an express train from downtown to downtown, which may or may not happen in our lifetimes, the 94 is pretty useful.

Re: Green Line (Central)
Especially with the routing optimization, it should only be 15-20 minutes from Cedar in St Paul to Nicollet in Minneapolis.Glad they're keeping more 94 service. Until there's an express train from downtown to downtown, which may or may not happen in our lifetimes, the 94 is pretty useful.

I think it's safe to say we will get a train from Minneapolis through st paul then out east, or vice-versa, in our lifetimesGlad they're keeping more 94 service. Until there's an express train from downtown to downtown, which may or may not happen in our lifetimes, the 94 is pretty useful.

Looks like the Washington Avenue bridge has been repainted. It looks great! Does any current student know if the pedestrian level is looking any nicer lately?

Re: Green Line (Central)
Not a current student, but I did walk across it recently. The pedestrian enclosure is still badly in need of repair, I don't think much has been done to it recently. It doesn't seem like it would be hugely expensive to replace the enclosure, I would assume it could be done in the span of a summer break.

Re: Green Line (Central)
The outside of the enclosure is is still faded and peeling, but the inside is almost done getting a new coat of paint. Hopefully they'll do the outside too, as well as replacing the rotted out panels.

At one time, there was pics of original 'vision' for the walkway liked, IIRC, to Minnescraper- It included little stores/kiosks and such all along walkway.
It is physically central to Minneapolis campus, and view can't be beat

Checked out LRT construction at the U and on University yesterday.
- Open to Grotto
- Grotto to Western still needs a final layer of pavement and sidewalks
- Western to Marion needs several layers of pavement
- Track being layed to Western
- Several substation foundations being poured
- Track complete along U of M Transitway
- Washington Ave has had curbs poured, still needs pavement and tracks
- Tracks being layed on University from Emerald to Malcolm
- Curbs poured from 29th to Berry
- Switch work at Emerald and Pascal

I really like all the new brickwork around Washington. And how the East Bank Station is MATH-themed!

Aw, Math is HARD!
I am eager to see how the landscaped pedestrian zone between the tracks turns out. I believe they have already started laying brick there, as well.

They have, at least for the block east of the station. Also, when I walked by on my way back from class today, they had delivered a couple hundred potted shrubs to the area. Surprised me, since I hadn't expected them to plant anything until next spring.
