Westbound train I was on hit a car on Washington right before campus this afternoon! Caused about a 15 minute delay, seems like the car bore the brunt of it!

Looks like the intersection people are always pulling illegal u-turns.

A Green Line light rail train was involved in a collision Monday afternoon in St. Paul with a police car, disrupting service, officials said.

Metro Transit buses are filling in for trains between Capitol/Rice Street and Raymond Avenue stations, the agency said.

The collision occurred near Pascal Street.

“Officer OK,” police said in a message on Twitter.

Police said they will have more to say about the incident late Monday afternoon during a news conference.

Looks like the cop was off duty. Had his lights and sirens on. Presumably ran a red light.

I see many cops throw their lights on because they don't want to wait for a red light. This may not be the case here, but it sure sounds like it.

I just saw another one-car train heading eastbound through campus. It was out of service, but what surprised me was that it was a Type I vehicle (LRV #101, in fact), which to my knowledge don't run on the Green Line. Perhaps it's heading to the St Paul OMF for some specialized repairs that can't be performed at the Franklin Ave OMF?

As far as I know, the Lowertown facility is not equipped for heavy repairs, only the Franklin Ave facility is. I'm not sure if keeping all the Type I LRVs on the Blue Line is planned to be permanent or not, perhaps they are only waiting for the rest to have the upgraded destination signs installed.

On that note, does anyone know why its taking such a long time to upgrade all the destination signs? Did they only budget one man-hour a week to the project or what?

I would presume it's to be done in their "free time" when they aren't making critical repairs.

For reference, I had to take a trip on the Green Line today.

How is the trip now that all the minor intersections have full transit priority? I ride everyday from downtown Minneapolis to Fairview and regularly get stopped at Eustis/Cromwell, Raymond, Vandailia, Cleveland and Prior, basically all the interstections without transit priority.

I am hoping it is just them adjusting the signals starting from downtown St. Paul and working their way west. It is just frustrating making every light in Minneapolis, then the train is stop-and-go once we cross the boarder.

I ride the east end of the line daily and from about Snelling or Fairview into downtown St Paul signal timing has gotten remarkably smooth. Door-to-door time via train on my commute is basically the same as driving, if not a little faster.

When I boarded today at Dale heading east, the 3-car train was all Type I cars, and they definitely went back west again after getting to SPUD. Is the weather putting even more strain on the fleet numbers of the Green Line that they are adding "blue line" cars as well?

Is it possible to mix vehicle types within a train? I thought they had to be all Type I or all Type II.

The cab controls don't work between the two, but in a pinch they're able to pull each other (either 2 of 1 type can pull the other or 1 of one type can pull 2 of the other).

Oh, that's cool, though presumably hazardous in the winter, unless at least the brake controls are interoperable.

In a pinch, means, by the way, literally need to tow a car off the line. I don't think it would ever happen in revenue service.

Ah, gotcha. I posted that, then realized that no cab controls probably also means no working doors.
