Can see the breakdown here:

https://metrocouncil.org/Council-Meetin ... eport.aspx

The worst gap relative to 2018 was January. Looks like a decrease in that month of >10%, significantly worse than February and March.

I wonder how much the SuperBowl had on the increase in transit usage in 2018.

There are plenty of things to blame for why the ridership declined, but if we're going to blame the weather, we should also add the AADT count or traffic count to see how much ridership declined compared to that of the general auto traffic.

Some people just don't travel if the weather is bad, period, and we shouldn't blame transit for that.

Rail and BRT were up in May 2019 over 2018, so I think it was just a bad quarter due to the weather and closures!

That being said, I wonder the degree of impact of Hennepin > Nicollet detours (compared to that of previous Nicollet > Hennepin detours) on ridership. The detours have been making the service slower, less reliable, and less legible.

EDIT:
Whatever happened to the detours when the farmers markets happen on Nicollet? (Sorry, I'm based out of town and I may be out of touch on the current happenings here.)

Northbound buses detour over to 2nd Ave S from 9:30-3:30, then again from 6:30-7:30. Southbound buses stay on Nicollet. High-quality transit right there.

Will be interesting to see what happens to ridership on the new C line.

Transit agencies upset at Minneapolis traffic cops not placing a priority on Marquette buses recently.
Robin Hutcheson, Minneapolis Public Works director, said she was surprised by Simich’s letter and said that the city has done everything possible to make transit run smoothly during the monthlong disruption.
I mean... really?? Really?
I don't buy it.

“20 cars backed up right here, and 20 full buses backed up over there... so it’s all equally balanced.”

MVTA is moving some routes from Marquette Ave to 4th Ave for outbound trips to the south suburbs. The routes being changed are 464, 470, 472, 476, 478, and 479.

Lisa Bender announces the City is considering three bus-only lane pilots for later this year:

https://twitter.com/lisabendermpls/stat ... 79809?s=21
  • Hennepin Av S (Lake to Franklin) to be in place until the road is reconstructed
  • Chicago Av/Chicago Lake Transit Center (Lake St to the Greenway) to be in place indefinitely
  • Nicollet Av (Lake to Franklin) for short trials of different lane treatments

Now we just need lake street to be on that list. Fantastic to have movement on dedicated bus lanes.

Nicollet is unexpected. It doesn't seem like the kind of street where a bus-only lane would deliver big time savings, and that parking is heavily used.

Agreed, unless by "dedicated bus lanes" we mean a transit mall from the Greenway to Lake St where Kmart now stands...

More info. The rush hour only restriction is disappointing.

Is there not enough street width to have NB and SB bus lanes on the same block? I don't regularly ride the 6 in rush hour, so I don't know the congestion points, but it seems unlikely that they trade off like that.

Also, ugh, if we're adjusting schedule times and restriping roadways to make buses move faster, how are we not also doing stop consolidation? Stopping for pickups/dropoffs every 650' has to be as big of a factor in the slowness as congestion.
