Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Postby Anondson » March 29th, 2019, 7:21 am

Yesterday afternoon I saw surveyors around the parking lot for the pawnshop and antiques store next to Arby’s on Blake Road where the station will be built.

Most pristine? Do they not remember this was a rail changing yard as recently as the 80s? Any invasive tree suddenly becomes ancient habitant?

I love when people use the word "pristine" to describe an area they want to protect from development. It's a "pristine" paved bike trail ffs.

I'm curious how many of the trees they're removing are buckthorn or other invasive species.

Some people really aren't going to quit until this thing is finished aren't they?

I really should start keeping a list of all the ways Kenwood has tried to kill this project. The latest one I heard about is saving a rare bee that breeds in the rail corridor. But this was on Nextdoor, so that ups the crazy quotient.

I am a bit confused, have they actually started construction on this thing? I was down there at the end of March, and it didn’t look like much was going on.

I wish we had an idea of the construction phasing. With that information it would be much easier to plan pictures

I took some video along the Cedar Lake and Kenilworth Trails last weekend. And I have at least a hundred photos along the route between Minneapolis and Hopkins.

Will be interesting to look back and see how it’s changed, for better or worse. I don’t doubt that the Kenwood area will be very different and have a lot more activity, but obviously too late to look at the Uptown option now.

Anyone here have any idea what the trail detours are going to look like?

I recall many detours being routed over to Minnetonka Blvd. for the SLP sections of trail.

Anyone have any pictures of what the shallow tunnel will look like under the Kenilworth Corredor? Will it be a landscape pedestrian area on top?

This PDF dates back to 2015, but I'd assume it's still pretty accurate in terms of the overall design intent.

Also, grubbing is a fun word.

That’s awesome! The viewing area is going to look really neat. How deep is the shallow tunnel? Is it going to be somewhat similar to wear minnehaha Park crosses over the blueline?

Posting this year because it’s definitely directly related to the south west light rail. Anyone know if there still a business in the building located at 401 Royalston Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55405. The building is directly west of the Rosslyn station. I was walking by there a couple days ago, and noted how great it would be to see that plot of land re-developed into some mixed use.

St. Louis Park sent out an email:

“SWLRT construction activities start; stay informed.
Southwest Light Rail Transit (SWLRT) construction activities are scheduled to start throughout the corridor over the next few weeks, including field surveys, installation of construction site fencing, erosion control work, utility relocations and clearing and grubbing, including tree removal. The Cedar Lake Trail through St. Louis Park is also slated to close for two years starting mid-May.”

I had no idea it would close for so long. So I noticed the Construction tab on the Met Council site and, whaddya know, they list the trail closures right there. Seems like an awful long time. I don’t see a link to the detour, although they mention one:

While driving through 5th St S in Hopkins, passed the site where the maintenance facility was due to be built. Everything that was there previously has been demolished. All that is left are concrete foundations.

The tech center building, where 17th will be connected through and the station be constructed, hasn’t been demolished though.
