Sun Country starting a route to Vancouver next summer.
I'm excited to have another option to Vancouver. Hopefully it'll help keep Delta in check since pricing on this route can get crazy.

39.6 Million Passengers used MSP this year! More impressively, I think, is that 63% of passengers originated here as opposed to connected through here.

Delta announced today that they are retiring the 777 fleet by the end of the year. While it is only 18 planes, it’s an indication that they anticipate a prolonged slowdown of international travel. It will probably quite some time before MSP regains all the long haul flights it had before the pandemic.

It took 18 years for passenger levels to get back to pre-9/11. This may be longer than that.

I’m not sure what metric you are using, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t 18 years.

I doubt it. if no vaccine cure is created and herd immunity is required then forsure after 2 years we will be see everything starting to open back up, and within 2 years of that (4 total) people will start to get back to normal once they see everything is in the past.

However if there IS a vaccine cure then 30-60 days after they get there shot people are going to feel invisible, superior to all non-vaccinated humans and will obnoxiously start hugging babies, licking telephone poles, and bats in Tic Toc and other social media platform challenges for attention. And when people start seeing that and realize they are not getting sick they will realize it's safe to go outside again, sit in the middle seat on a long haul flight again too. We are a social species, everything will return back to normal quickly within 2-4 years.

Southwest is adding service from MSP to Houston Hobby. Great news for anybody that flies Southwest, because Hobby is a major hub for access to the rest of their network, especially into Latin America. (Southwest pretends they don't have hubs, but they're lying.)

Driving 494 tonight I noticed a 747 with Arab text on the fuselage and a Qatar flag on the tail. Doesn't appear to be Qatar Air based on photos I'm seeing online. Curious if some sort of dignitary is at Mayo Clinic or something. Anyone know?

(I know there's a community or airport watcher people but not sure how to find them)

It's a Bahraini 747. Mayo Clinic visit and from what I've heard it'll be parked at MSP for at least a week. If you're on Facebook the group "Minneapolis/St. Paul Aviation Spotting" is a good place to find out about this stuff.

Funny, I took my lunch break in the MOA parking ramp and watched planes take off and land, and I noticed it right away as well. Don't see too many 747s anymore.

Allegiant Airlines will operate 3 new routes from MSP: Asheville, NC; Palm Beach, FL; and Punta Gorda, FL. All three of these are already served by Sun Country. The fare wars to these locations are already beginning.

I wish everyone had to deal with the freeze/thaw cycle/issues we have here in the rest of the USA. It's insane the engineering that goes into things here that still get destroyed, while other places don't have to think about it.

I don't know why anyone would want to park at the Terminal 1 ramps when there's other cheaper options that are still convenient.

Do all bus services (Metro Transit, regional, intercity, etc.) use the transit center at the Silver Ramp?

Well when your employer is paying for it people tend to take the option most convenient to them

For being such a destination why does only the Blue line and route 54 serve the airport?
