Bluestone Lofts - Duluth
Bluestone Lofts - Duluth

I meant to post this yesterday, but it looks like a part of the new development up by UMD is open. I'm not crazy about the setback from the street they chose (I would have made it a little more urban feeling and put it closer to the street), but overall the materials and design look pretty nice. Next time I am in Duluth, I will have to swing by here to see it in person.
Is anyone in Duluth that can post any picture updates of this project? Also, does anyone know if they are using the old elementary/middle school on this site?
Here is the website (with some renderings):

Looks like some of the businesses in the BlueStone Project were announced! Starbucks, Frozen Yogurt, Haircuts & Credit Union...also "a yet-to-be-revealed restaurant likely offering Mexican food" [Chipotle?!]
I am still not a huge fan of the way this project is arranged (one story businesses in front of the apartments...should have been mixed use buildings, IMO), but it is great to see some action around UMD.

Sad to see a structural brick home coming down for this project. Too expensive to move.

Some of the best coffee shops are the two level shops carved into old brick structures (many Dunn Bros in town, Caribou in Red Wing, etc). It's a shame this couldn't have been adapted into the new development and used for the coffee shop.

some more news...
It looks like they have the Shops completely leased out...I am still disappointed that the shops are only one story and there is parking surrounding these buildings. But, hopefully they realize that land is at a premium and will start developing upwards in the future near UMD
