I know the southwest corner of 2nd St SW and 6th Ave SW is under contract to be sold. I wonder if it is that lot. Caribou lot would be good, as well as the one pitched for a Holiday Inn that got shut down last year.

That address is closer to downtown - the just closed Just Rite Market store.

The demolition of the Third Avenue Lofts and a couple of houses has been completed for "Residence at Discovery Square" development. However, there is one house remaining on the block outside the fenced area (on the NW corner of the block). Anyone know if this house is eventually going to be removed?

EKN Development has updated their projects page with another downtown Rochester project. They're looking to work on the Holiday Inn downtown.
EKN has worked with HKS Architects to develop a conceptual-level vision for the redevelopment of an existing Downtown Rochester Hotel, potential new brand standard requirements notwithstanding. The vision entails a significant re-design of the hotel’s 60’s style major public spaces at the podium level, which focuses on adding a substantial amount of natural light to transform the hotel from a monolithic fortress into a light and airy experience fully integrated with the City’s downtown.

I'm not sure I've seen mention of this other proposed project on the EKN website:

My wife and I just drove by the Holiday Inn about a week ago and talked about how awful it was and how nice it would be to get redeveloped. This appears to be about the best possible outcome. EKN really seems to want to transform Rochester. Their current proposal approved last month is a great use of that land. And it sounds like the St Mary's hotel/condo is next on their list. But I would much rather see the Holiday Inn idea jump up in line.

I guess I haven't been paying attention, but where is the location of the EKN St. Mary's development?

Is there any reason no work is being done on the "Residence at Discovery Square" and Alatus projects? Are they just waiting for spring?

What do you mean no work is being done on the Alatus project? They've been at it nonstop since early September.

Since the demolition wrapped up a couple of months ago, I've seen very little activity (I drive by on 2nd St SW every weekday at 3:30 pm). I just drove by and the snow from Monday lies undisturbed.

Yup, there has not been any work for a few months now. I think they got the easement vacated on the 17th, so not sure what is standing in the way, unless they are waiting for spring. With the new Bloom project, Alatus is getting close to losing their advantage of being the first to open.

Ryan Companies is buying the Wells Fargo building on Peace Plaza in downtown Rochester. This is a PRIME piece of real estate in Rochester. One would hope a company known as a developer would have plans to redevelop this parcel. Hopefully they tear the building down so we don't have a building hanging over the street anymore.

A pipe dream maybe, but wow that would really open 1st up (and expand the apparent size of downtown) if they could do that.

Reading the Business Journal article, sounds more likely they will just redesign the the space with retail and a restaurant. That is really good as well, but wish it was a full redo.

The start of construction was just announced by Titan and Opus for their Urban on First project in downtown. They expect to finish in August of 2019.

Bob Hauser and CRW are proposing a four-story, 26 unit apartment development along 2nd Street. The building would be directly to the west of where Tyrol is. 12 studio units, 14 one bed room units, and 11 parking stalls in the underground parking garage.

2nd st. W of 52 seems ripe for development. The new sidewalks and street are underutilized. Hope to see more of these types in that area. Walkable to St. Marys and Cascade Lake, and great trail access to Douglas from this area.

New Rochester flights to take off in July
http://www.postbulletin.com/news/local/ ... ff517.html

In July, new weekly, nonstop flights to Arizona and Florida will take off from the Rochester International Airport.

Elite Airways, a young boutique airline headquartered in Portland, Maine, will launch Sunday and Thursday flights to Phoenix plus Monday and Friday flights to St. Augustine, Florida starting on July 19.

The majority of flights will be on Bombardier CRJ-700 planes, which seat 70 passengers. Elite also uses Bombardier CRJ-200s, which can carry 50 people.

Yeah, unless these are in some sort of Premium Economy 2-1 configuration with decent legroom, I'd avoid.
