Looks like the Library Bar is constructing a cool outdoor patio area behind their building on a former underutilized surface parking area. Should be nice for the college hipster-bros come September.

Also, the Co-op building looks like it was delightfully built with yellow legos. If this doesn't add to the "quirk" of Dinkytown, I'm not sure what does.

Lileks on Dinkytown. He's right on in many ways... upgrades are a mixed bag, usually there to accommodate all the newcomers. This new historic district is going to preserve building stock, but really people are more nostalgic about a place they were at a funner time in their life.

Are they in the Bruegger's space or the basement Tshirt space? I'm assuming Bruegger's.

This is completely tasteless. They call a chocolate-frosted donut the BBD? Pathetic.

They look like really really good doughnuts and that's all that matters.

I went there a couple of times when it was still a pop-up shop at Alpha Printing and they do have good donuts.

Blue Door Pub starts work on third restaurant
http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/n ... urant.html

... The St. Paul-based restaurant company signed a lease for 1514 Como Ave., Blue Door co-owner Jeremy Woerner confirmed.

The new location will be similar to the Blue Door's other restaurants but may emphasize burgers and wings more given the student population, Woerner said.

The company is also contemplating delivery service from the new location.
The building on Como was previously home to Sol Tan & Spa but has been vacant for a few years, landlord Thomas Vaith said...

Hopefully they build comfortable seating and a logical, well designed layout; something seriously lacking in their other locations. Good burgers, frustratingly badly designed restaurants.

There are times I think that is on purpose. To make it seem busier. Supply and Demand concept.

It's like the other day, I went to Apple store in the middle of the day. There were 4 people working and they said to talk to a genius bar I would have to put my name on the wait list... which was 4 hours long! I later got a text and went back for my turn. It looked like the holiday shopping season. Wall to wall people.

Walking thru Dinkytown this morning I saw that some of the new retail spaces have been filling up nicely. There are still a few vacancies in the Opus building that replaced the House of Hanson across from the Target Express. The ground floor retail space at the rounded corner of the Riverton project still looks like it is looking for a tenant. All in all Dinkytown retail is looking pretty strong right now. Will be interesting to see if Dinkytown or Stadium Village has more vacancies next spring once WaHu has had time to get tenants built out that they have currently gotten signed. See the space where Jamba Juice is still sitting empty on Washington.

Chilly Billy's frozen yogurt has closed. It was one of the tenants of Sydney Hall.

Wally's looks like it has really made some headway on its new space next to Al's Breakfast. Last night I saw all the lighting on the inside was on and the entire family was cleaning and working on small fixtures.

I think Dinkytown Tattoo may be moving as well to the former Radius leasing office.

Andrea Pizza, the pizza place in Cappela Tower, is planning to open in the new Riverton Housing Co-op across from the Library. Construction has been on-going.
