GPS systems are another example of the dumbing down of society. Laziness is taking over.

Maybe it'll be easier to find if they put a blinking yellow left turn arrow on Malcolm, pedestrianize highway 280, turn the parking lot into a "yard," and add 30 more stories to the brewery. Oh, and 3C.

Next to the brewery so the 30 extra stories won't block so much sunlight.

Big plus of the plans is there will be plenty of stalls in the public restrooms. No long lines!! LOL

It would be interesting to see a site plan showing the future phase build-out. You can see the expansion of the cellar in one of the floor plans.

Looks like the city would like them to eliminate the drop-off and make a stronger connection to the Malcolm - 5th intersection.

While Staff acknowledges the unique shape of the lot, it would seem practical to locate the building closer to both Malcolm Avenue SE and SE 5th Street as opposed to providing a drop-off area and parking between the building and the public street. The location of the building has been designed, however, to take advantage of the existing grain elevators not located on the subject property that abut Malcolm Avenue SE as a backdrop for the beer garden and outdoor event space as well as to accommodate a future expansion. In addition, the location of the structure and the corresponding site amenities are located in an effort to mitigate the impacts of other surrounding industrial uses. Public Works will need to review the proposed drop-off as part of the official Preliminary Development Review process. The applicant has stated that the drop-off is a courtesy feature for guests during inclement weather.

Cool. It honestly looks like any other industrial building for the most part, except MOST industrial buildings don't welcome people to sit down and enjoy the scenery nearby. If I go to this place I'll have fun watching trucks dock at what appears to be a distribution center of some sort next door.

I like the expanded brewery site plan much better than the initial brewery site plan - accommodation of a potential expansion would require them to eliminate parking and rely more on the transit connections. It will be interesting to see if that expansion ever happens.

There's some interesting financing outlined in the CDC agenda. By my math, there's almost $4m in sewer access charges that will be doled out for the area surrounding the Prospect Park LRT station -- some of which will go to Surly and their future expansions, and some of which could go to the surrounding area.

I went by this randomly today. There's not too much to see yet, but the site is cleared and there are some signs of a foundation going in. There are two small cranes and some heavy machines there.

Is this moving really slowly, or is this moving really slowly?

Also, I wonder if there's any way Surly could negotiate some sort of right of way to make a straightforward route to the brewery from the Westgate LRT station. Even a path from the end of Bedford to the U of M transitway would be a huge help. The Jefferson Apartments, for example, are really close as the crow flies, but right now you'd have to walk well out of the way and on roads that don't currently have sidewalks.
