Huh? Nordeast isn't a German nickname, it's actually a slur against the Eastern Europeans (Polish, Ukrainian, Lithuanian) that settled the area.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

And a pretty decent beer, too.
Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (Superior Plating site)
If "Nordeast" was one day slur, today it's best known for meaning "north east" in several languages — including German! — and being a nickname for this neighborhood. As explained by Schell's:Huh? Nordeast isn't a German nickname, it's actually a slur against the Eastern Europeans (Polish, Ukrainian, Lithuanian) that settled the area.
Sorry for being so appallingly wrong in my original post!Named after the hardworking neighborhood where the original Grain Belt Brewery established its roots back in 1893. ‘Nordeast’ is an endearing term which comes from the Northern and Eastern European immigrants and their language which helped shape Northeast Minneapolis.

"Nordeast" ist halb Deutsch, man will "Nordosten" sagen.

Agreed. And Didier, if they cause people to feel the urge to Portland, I'm guessing there are twice as many idiotic named buildings for you to live in there too... LOLResidential building names always have been and always will be incredibly stupid.
Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (Superior Plating site)
The name of a project is within the city's control?Yes, but this neighborhood is colloquially called Nordeast. So if you're going to use a generic German name, you could make it less generic by building upon the already-German neighborhood nickname. You guys realize that with the exception of that stupid symbol, this is just German for North House, right?
This is a huge missed opportunity for the city and makes my urge to move to Portland even stronger.
If you're willing to move because of the name of a development, bye Felicia. I'm sure Portland is immune to crazy naming schemes hatched in developers boardrooms. That's like really wanting to date someone because they have all the right features but won't because they have a name you don't like. So petty.

Shows what you know.

What I do know is that this could have been around 500 feet at named Nord Turm, but the city wouldn't let them build tall enough, so I'm moving to New York.

They've been doing some concrete work. Seemingly patching areas and reinforcing the edge along the RR track...
Re: Nord Haus - 315 1st Ave NE (Superior Plating site)
It's been a while since I've been in the area. Anything significant happening here yet?

The two blocks looked quiet this past weekend...
