Walked by last night, and saw a small crawler crane parked in the lot behind the houses. The black and yellow sidewalk tunnels from 700 on Washington have been moved over here as well. I'm guessing this'll start once they wrap up the 700.

All four houses on this site are now rubble.

Many of the projects going on around the city involve infill of parking lots. Some may be different but a majority is infill. It's interesting and telling of an area where the construction is demolishing existing properties. It's showing that this area is already dense but market factors make the area less suitable for the single unit homes.

Yeah, I was going to say that 50 years of rough living and deferred maintenance on many of these houses may mean that they're near the end of their life expectancy.

When is construction supposed to start?

Looks like the U of MN purchased the land that the hotel was going to be constructed on, and CPM is moving their hotel project across the street. On the photo caption, it says that CPM will sell the entire block to the U, whic is a pretty big deal. Locked article:

Huh. I walked by there last night, and was wondering why they had demolished the houses months ago but not done anything else yet. Guess that's why.

Does the article specify whether across the street means across Essex on the site of that yellow apartment building, or across Huron on the Everfresh building site? I'm assuming the former, but idk.

Any info on what the U plans for the site? Hopefully not another superblock hulking building.

Hopefully dorms and not a parking ramp.

I'd be cool with a parking ramp, IF it meant that they would tear down the Oak St. Ramp (which I've heard they're considering) and put dorms there.

Where did you hear that they want to tear down Oak St ramp? From what I remember, part of the cost of the Ambulatory Care clinic was a diagonal skyway from the ramp to the clinic over the Essex/Ontario intersection. That'd be pretty cool though if they did... It's really kind of a blockade between the U and the Dinnaken properties.

I thought someone mentioned it on here, but upon searching it seems like it was only people wishing they would. So ignore that parenthetical, I suppose.

I also remember talk of a diagonal skyway, but that corner of the building is looking pretty close to done, and there's no indication of a skyway yet.

There was definitely a plan, although it appears to have been set aside, that would have built a new ramp and bus transit center adjacent/over the Stadium LRT stop in exchange for tearing down Oak Street.

I think they bought the entire block for that. And I would think that $543,000 is the taxed value. Waaaay different than market value

They're buying the rest of the block for 19.2m. 26million for the whole lot.

Does anyone know what the U plans to do with the half block on the corner of Fulton and Oak. They tore down a couple houses there. Currently it's just used as parking for the hospital construction.

So what is the actual new address for the hotel if the U bought their old site??
