Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics
Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
Yeesh, 4 curbs cuts for an assisted living facility?
Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
Interesting, I've often wondered about that underused lot on 2nd/Broadway. It looks like Catholic Eldercare has been sitting on these lots for a long time, 1991, 1995, 2007 for the house. It's too bad they don't own the Doroschak corner property too, it could've been a great opportunity to improve that gross intersection.
Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
Nice to see that area densify a bit, especially with assisted living. Not too thrilled about tearing down a SFH for surface parking, though.

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
I like the structure of the proposal well enough, though the design itself seems sort of meh. And as politely hostile, if poorly proofread, as the SNO reaction is, I do think it is likely that the residents of this building will still by in large want to have cars, as transit access in this area isn't as good as it should be. Mind you, I think the solution is improving transit access rather than increasing parking, but what, the 30 comes every half hour? The 11 is better at (I think) 15 minute headways, but that's really all you've got in this area. Obviously that's better than some places in the city, and especially in NE, but not good enough to realistically expect the residence to be majority transit reliant.

Lol whut? Most of NE is a ghost town outside of special events like Art-a-whirl.

Are you serious? Dangerous Man, Young Joni, Anchor, 331, the Food building, the Bottineau library, etc. are all hugely popular year round. Sheridan has a lot going on.Lol whut? Most of NE is a ghost town outside of special events like Art-a-whirl.

Even still, whenever I visit those establishments, I rarely have to park more than a half block away.

Outside of those actual places, the whole area is pretty sleepy. Which is sort of neat in a way when you come across a happening spot. Are you serious? Saw in an email that Doran is partnering with CSM to develop the General Mills Technical Center site. Sold for $15.8 million. Going to develop the lot west of 3rd Avenue SE first, then presumably move eastward to the rest of the site. Approval for project later this year, groundbreaking next year.

I dont have much faith in those 2 to deliver something noteworthy. I'm prepared to see a massive block of 6 story apartments with CMU and metal siding.
Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
I thought that was still an active General Mills facility, no?
Also, any chance of connecting 4th Ave through the site?

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
It seems they're going to give them time to transition out of it. General Mills has been underperforming lately, especially in the United States. There has been some chatter of them selling or spinning off some of their packaged goods as they focus on more lucrative (and growing) “natural” foods. So it wouldn’t be surprising for them to offload some valuable real estate to strengthen their bottom line as well as get rid of a facility that might be closed by a potential future buyer anyway.I thought that was still an active General Mills facility, no?

Eric Best says 18-20 stories:

The Journal says:
Principal Kelly Doran said they envision the upscale, market-rate housing project to include a tower of 18-20 stories, though it would include a combination of heights. The building could feature direct-entry townhome units and some wood-frame housing, he added.

Well this is St. Anthony, ya see?
Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
Here are a few pictures snapped from Google maps of the area. The dropped pin is on the General Mills building. Would there be something happening to the parking lot just to the west of it?
