Has anyone heard anything new on the Grain Belt sign? We're approaching 10 months since news broke about Schells possibly buying it. Property records indicate it is tax forfeited land (which was fofeited as of the end of June), which now puts it's ownership with I'm assuming Hennepin County. It is listed as exempt from auction due to the obvious. I'm curious if the deal fell through or if it was the agreed upon path to ownership for Schells. Seems weird though.

On Saturday we were down at the brewery and we asked our tour guide, and he seemed to think that Schells already owned it, but who knows.
I noticed Jacob Frey had this vague tweet about it a couple of weeks ago, I presume he knows the status.

Agreed, but it certainly seems like some sort of restaurant should be able to thrive in that location, no?

That tends to happen when you are trying to be a restaurant and music club. Customers will stay way because they don't want the music and other will only come for the music and not spend on food. If you get the best of both worlds then you are doing something right. Despite the nearby parking garages, most people are clueless as to where to park or where the entrances are to the parking garages. I don't think that main street has the people flow/foot traffic for a music venue. Just my observations. To the best of my knowledge their other venture, the Wilde Roast, is still doing well.

Noticed that Ackerberg tweeted this a few days ago. Good office renovation for the area.

Kind of has a 1970s renovation vibe to it, especially the longer windows and wacky awning.

Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit sold to Bulldog owners

Of note:
"The new owners plan to remodel the 19,000-square-foot building's interior and exterior, according to a permit application to the city. Minneapolis-based Blumentals/Architecture Inc. is listed as the architect.

Kaster said they will add a 60-seat bar on the main floor and put in more windows, but declined to provide more information."

Sad day if they change the menu and theme... lots of fun memories here!
Here's hoping they're just upgrading.

I agree. A lot of fun evenings spent there with friends and family. Guess I'll have to brave the tent for one last hurrah and klinking of mugs.

Can we agree to post more than just a link? How about the headline as bare minimum. Or the headline and your thoughts!?! I see star tribune as the link and I will not blindly click. Their website is the worst.

First and First picks up another property in Northeast at 429 Taft. They've been responsible for quite a few hip, light-touch renovations of neglected properties around the city.

Anybody know if the rail spur that serves this area, paralleling Traffic Street just north of East Hennepin, is still active? Looks like it peels off of the mainline around Kasota and 280.

Speaking of Kasota, The Glean has a sidenote that Amazon is planning a same-day grocery distribution hub at 769 Kasota Ave.
