That's kind of sad. I always enjoyed having that in the middle of a residential block when I lived in Prospect Park.

It really stood out because it was an operating business in the middle of a block which had nothing on either corner.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but has anyone else heard about the U of M transitway being moved north to the railroad yard to make room for Prospect Park development? A quick glance at Google Maps and it appears it could run alongside the tracks and go under 280 and then quickly veer over to the pre-existing bridge over the railroad yard.

That's part of the whole Granary Rd proposal right or just its own separate thing? Can't seem to get any final plans on Granary Rd.

Looks like the Vertical Endeavors bouldering facility is now open.

Technically this isn't Prospect Park, but really it is.

Also, the Russian church at the corner of Franklin and Emerald has signs up indicating they will be doing some sort of expansion or remodel. Haven't gotten a close look.

Ooh, yeah, that was approved by the PUC on Monday. Cool looking proposal: Staff Report .

They have been open for a month, and it is quite nice!

With all the excitement of the grocery store opening today I should mention that plans for a 2nd grocery store on Malcolm just north of the transit-way continue to move forward. The most recent plans I have seen show a 2 level grocery store/restaurant at the base of a 12 story apartment tower with around 240 units. This building would sit on the corner of Malcolm and the transit-way (though still a ways back due to the width of the transit-way right of way). North of it would sit a 120 unit affordable housing building and to the west the Malcolm Yards food hall in the old Harris building. They are hoping to break ground this year on the tower and food hall with the affordable housing building probably following later as funding allows.

Also Aeon is hoping to break ground on the 70 unit building kitty corner from Fresh Thyme in June.

Is this new news? I feel like I haven't heard anything about this before. Would be great to see this vacant land start filling in for real.

I've read about it elsewhere - I distinctly remember the plans for second grocery store.

The neighborhood could easily support two stores.

Selfishly, I hope they keep the silos by Surly. I like having the Big wall on which to project stuff.

Definitely. Kind of surprised that Wall hasn't sold them to Surly yet -- I can't imagine that the parcel is particularly useful for redevelopment.

When it says Midwest Climbing is "Currently Underway", what does that mean?

iDK what they mean, but it went out to bid sometime ago so I think it has to be close to building time.

Crews were tearing up the asphalt at the 4th St Lofts site today, and there is fencing and a trailer on site. (Last undeveloped corner of 4th & 29th.)

The HPC approved a 'historic district' study last night for Glendale, per the nomination from Cam Gordon. The HPC will now conduct a study. That seems wrong on so many fronts, notably that the buildings look nothing like they did originally. Seems like an end-run around redevelopment/ improvement.

Application: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups ... 217999.pdf

The MPHA of course opposed it. The State Historic Preservation Office and the National Trust deemed if ineligible for any designation previously.

I truly don't get how these unattractive, insignificant buildings could wind up with any historic designation. What a waste of resources and time!
