200 Central (2019) - 293' / 27 Stories

It's back - this time as apartments in a shorter building with more units.

Was: 40 stories, 214 units
Now: 27 stories, 356 apartments
Not a bad project by any means, but it definitely is less attractive with the 13-story reduction.

Mod Note: this is the thread for the 2019 apartment tower incarnation of this project. Find the original discussion dating back to 2014(‽) here.

Wedge-live guy seems kinda grumpy they didn't go ahead with the condos for millionaires.

I could be wrong... but I don’t think John expressed much preference for one vs the other and more was needling the lawsuit-losers who said they were actually concerned these condos were luxury (plus heights to blot out gardens) but in other contexts even more bothered rentals were growing all around their neighborhood.

Now they get no ownership from this and they get even greater density, in addition to having spent all that money on losing a lawsuit.

I am no where near millionaire but would rather look at a millionaire condo building raising my property value then crappy developments. I'm two blocks from this site and would love to see something grand, elegant and large.

If you go back to the very beginning of this thread, the initial announcement and reporting on this project all noted a 25-30 story development. Only later did it grow to 35, and then 40 stories in final design. If the newly proposed 27-story building was the only thing we’d ever seen for this site, I’m sure we’d all be quite happy with it. This is still a very significant development for this site! It’s taller and more dense than many, many projects on the downtown side of the river, and will be among the tallest 3 or 4 buildings on the east side of the river.

Ouch, that height reduction caused the project to lose almost all it's elegance in that picture. Still a great project

@Twincitizen agreed. As long as this gets built, and relatively soon, I will be more than happy to see a 300 ft building that I still think looks nice rise on that side of the river. Will continue to add to that skyline and add density the area.

Should we split this into a new topic (starting with the apartment announcement) and archive this 5.5-year old thread? The old stuff will all still be visible, just in a locked topic.

Yeah, that'll be easiest I think.

I think archiving it would be a good idea. In the first post of the new topic, there should be a link so that people can click back to the archived version.

Great find!

Not sure I like how the tower lines Central Ave instead of being pushed back to the back side of the podium. There is a great 3-6 floor vide in this area that would be greatly complemented. As well as not overpowering the square nearby as well. Plus the views from the pool on the podium would be much better facing Central Ave instead of the parking lot. It's a minor thing, but I do gotta say I like the roof having some shape. Not a standard box shape, even if it's subtle it's refreshing.

So this is no longer an Alatus project? CA Ventures bought the land and basically the same design and lobbed fifteen stories off and made it apartments? As the kids say, that's praxis.

I wish they'd bring back that light-bar from the 12th street apartments proposal. I think as dumb as it sounds, that simple addition would have made us all pleased with the design even with the reduction in height relative to Alia. It would add something unique to the building.

Wow I missed that as I looked at the doc on google drive! CA Ventures is coming into this market in a huge way!

Better yet, no podium? Or something.
