Love how Dinkytown developers just swing for the fences on every project. These buildings will be amazing when the U eventually buys them and subsidizes the rent (I can dream)

I split this off into it's own thread, fyi.

Very impressive, and, unlike the McDonald's redevelopment, the height is allowed by-right in the 2040 Plan, so the neighborhood shouldn't be able to whine it into oblivion.

Hope Metro Transit's Network Next plan includes a Rt 3 BRT line when it comes out.

Truly hilarious that this is allowed but the Dinkytown McDonalds redevelopment was nitpicked to death over height and bulk. I even wonder if this project would be coming forward, and would be coming forward in such a big way, if that earlier proposal had not been rejected.

The bulk and massing of this project just feels worlds better than the squat version of the McDonalds project. Having the 'E' open up to the street and the mass backed up against the railroad tracks are smart urban moves.

Wilderness Inquiry, a great non-profit organization, is headquartered in the one-story buildings on the west side of the site. Is there any word on what will happen to them?

It looks like they were the main seller so at a minimum, they have a nice cash infusion here.

Thanks for the update, HKM. I'm happy for them.

Here's a (locked) Bizjournals article on the proposal. They interviewed the Wilderness Inquiry founder, who says they've been struggling with a lack of storage space, so it's been time to move for a while.

Submitted to the CPC for next week: https://lims.minneapolismn.gov/download ... 20Ave%20SE

274 units, 810 bedrooms, 882 beds. 193 car parking spaces. 914 bicycle parking spaces.

This building has a monumentality to it. It's huge, it will define the northern border of Dinkytown in a big way. If this building and the McDonalds building are built at the same time, it might have an enormous effect on the housing market in the Como and Marcy Holmes area, hopefully opening up a lot of cheaper rentals to non-students.

Sounds like the developer has finished buying all of the needed land and the city has issued permits to sever the water and sewer lines.

It looked like they put up temporary fencing around the site when I went by a few days ago so I'd imagine demo will start soon.
